I know this is a really shallow thing to complain about, but well here’s the shallowest side-effect of the current pandemic. This stuff has so permeated my mind that I find when I’m writing I have a heightened awareness of how the characters are not practicing proper precautions. Not just feeling a little weird about having them close to each other (in some ways my usual hang-ups about too much human contact were already something I had to work around, or identify with a character who’s wary of casual touch too) but if they want to order takeout or go out for coffee or have someone over from out of town.

I’m not even quite this hung-up about things for myself (at least not yet) since I live in an area that hasn’t been hit badly so far and neither I nor the rest of the house go out much anyway (we practiced social distancing before it was cool). But I find myself dwelling on how long it might have been since characters last washed their hands if they’re going to getting close to each other. And I set a lot of stock in hand holding, shoulder touching, and forehead kissing (yes even when I may or may not be trying to write porn) and right now none of it seems like proper social distancing.

Thus ends the pettiest objection to Coronavirus anyone has had. Best of luck to anyone with far more to worry about and stay safe out there, everyone.

Also I haven’t been posting here much, but if you happen to miss my various TV opinions I’ve been posting over on DW at tori_reviews.

So I was on vacation there for a week of so, my and my folks went to Phoenix for the tail end of spring training and caught opening day between the D-back and the Rockies. This brings my parents' total of baseball stadiums they've been to to around 20 and mine to three, but I'm less on a mission to go to them all. None of us had ever been to an opening day before and it was actually a lot of fun (the last few years most Rocks games we make it to are not so well attended), and that game at least the Rockies won in handy fashion.

I ended up talking baseball longer than I thought so I'll put it in a cut )

Now some TV reaction reviews.

So because I feel incapable of watching TO/TVD without doing a reaction post, it kept getting put off, but I’m finally getting to it.

Short rl update )

Okay, on with the shows.

TVD 5x09 )

So, in case anyone was wondering, my standard reaction posts are going to be late if at all this week. My grandma had a stroke and is still in ICU although she's not getting any worse at least. It's been a stressful few days and I only today bothered figuring out my grandparents' internet connection to get online. So I'm still a bit from getting to TV shows, not a huge priority obviously.

Hope all of you are well.

So I recently passed my 1000th post level. And I’ve had this whole plan for an epic retrospective in MS Paint but I haven’t been able to settle in and do many of the drawings I had planned for it. And tomorrow is moving day so I’m unlikely to be getting to it in the next few days either. Packing has kind of gotten in the way of a lot of my regular viewing/updates (I still haven’t watched TVD) much less my special plans.

So, here’s hoping all goes well with real life stuff before I can get back to online/fandom stuff.

Giving it some thought, I don’t think I’ll be doing NaNo this year. I’m going to be moving in the middle of November, so pretty much the whole month is structured around that. It doesn’t mean I won’t be writing during November, I’m signed up for enough big bangs that I should get moving on and an ingoing TVD AU that I want to get back to. I had some ideas for NaNo, but I wasn’t set on any of it and I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to put the time needed to it. It’s the first time in a few years I’m not even going to try and that makes me sort of sad, but I’m okay with this choice, my other projects can make me happy too.

Just a couple of reviews, I think I should just do them when I have something to say. I feel like I should have things to say about at least Korra and Downton, but I’m mostly waiting to see where things go on those shows.

-Okay so I've spent the last few days traveling and going to a wedding. It was nice to see family but it was a lot of time in the car with my parents.

-Plus I got sick on the last day of all that. Completely awful sick. Fortunately I seem to be on the mend. Pretty much just knocked myself out to finish the trip home but a good night's sleep in my own bed was a plus.

-All in all it was at best a meh trip.

-However is 'The Originals' is actually a thing...I will have to figure out how I feel about it. Because The Originals are like 90% of the reason I'm still watching TVD (I love you Elena, but the show clearly doesn't) so I should love to see them get they're own spin off but...I 'm not that interested in watching the weekly exploits of Klaus where he's probably going to be the supposed sympathetic main character (plus it would take Klaus away from his OTL Stefan) and I still don't see ow they're going to get Gillies into a full time role. So, I guess for now those are my feelings, I'm not as excited as I want to be.

-I always think I'm going to get more writing/editing done on trips than I actually do. I ended up with basically nothing accomplished, sadness.

-Now I have TV shows to watch while I recuperate.

So we're back from seeing family now so I need to get caught up on lj (I had things I wanted to respond to before I left but didn't get to, now it's a bit late but I might still do it).

While it was an okay time, we *did* have quite a bit of fun, but things also kind of suck.

Cut for real life/family babble )

So anyway, hope you all had a good holiday (whatever version of it you may or may not embrace).

-So I know the reviews have been pretty sporadic this last week or so, well they're going to continue to be because I'm off having fun this weekend. Well, if my friends and I end up watching anything I want to review and I have the inclination to do so I might but in case you were waiting with baited breath (I'm sure all of you were right?) you'll have to wait a bit longer.

-I'm slowly making progress on the next fic in my TVD fic series (I'm thinking of something like 'Safe Harbor' as a series title y/n). Actually this next one would make that time silly since everything is royally screed up and unlikely to be resolved in this episode as much as my shippy heart would like (aka probably no sexytimes this time around). But we'll see where the muses go as I have a lot left to write just for this episode in the series, and WAY more to go for the series as a whole.

-But I would like to get one more out before the season premier, so we can have some nice things as I'm still not in a gung-ho mood for s4.

-Also, I'm not watching any of the stuff that's been put out, Jedi is in a spoiler cave of denial until the premier.

-I do seem to have reached the stage where I'm tired of being in limbo over what's going to happen now (wanting so badly for there to be a way out of this but 98% sure it won't happen and 85+% sure it won't write it in a way that makes me forgive the fact that she show went there), just not wanting out of limbo badly enough to watch spoiler clips before the episode comes around.

-I ought to do a general review of Saving Hope now that the season is over but pretty sure it won't happen at least until I get home next week. Very short version: meh (but I'll probably keep watching for the eye candy).

-Fireworks are pretty :)

Okay, so there’s a few updates on some of my ongoing projects (if people are all that interested) here, but then there’s real life stuff again.

Various stuff here )

Not that I think many of you would notice, but I might be less available than usual for a few days. I'll still probably be around some, but less.

So, as the subject line says, I'm back from vacation. Had fun (though even on March I'm not a fan of the weather in Phoenix), didn't write a thing (boo), and am ready for the real baseball season to start (go Rockies).

I'm not going to do a real comprehensive scroll back through my f-list, but if people have something they think I should see, let me know.

Right now I'm feeling sleepy since I had to be up fairly early for he plane ride back so doubt I'll stay up too late (only late afternoon so far though)...we'll see anyway
jedi_of_urth: (Default)
Tomorrow morning I am off on a family trip to Phoenix to see the tail end of baseball spring training. By this point we know we'll only see some of the big players, but it will still be fun.

And then next weekend the actual season starts. Come on Rockies, give us a great year.

I found this week's [livejournal.com profile] fannish5 inspiring me to answer it.

What are your top five personal moments in fandom?

I decided to interpret this as five of my fondest, most game changing times in my fannish life.

This post brought to you from my BRAND NEW LAPTOP. It's currently maybe five feet from my desktop but I can sit other places with it. Especially once I get used to the new setup and can maybe stop hitting the capslock key constantly...and get Firefox installed so I have in-line spellcheck because I kind of depend on that.

In any case, happy times, hopefully helpful in my hope to do more writing, though I think I'll keep using the desktop for vidding because a) I've heard Win7 isn't as good for that and b) vidding with a touchpad seems like a recipe for disaster.

Off to get to know my NEW LAPTOP better.

So yeah, Merry Christmas everyone (I'm a little early for me to be saying it but I may not have time tomorrow). Whether that means the religious bit of it or just a good time to spend with family and friends, the sentiment is the same (since I fall in the later category myself).

Cut for moping )

Okay, so the story goes something like this, I wanted to transfer some files from one of my external hard drives to my mom's laptop. However I clicked 'safely eject' for the wrong drive but didn't realize it until after I'd unplugged the one I was transferring stuff from. It worked just fine when I plugged it into my mom's computer anyway so I figured it hadn't been a problem.

But then I plug it back into my computer and it keeps telling me "device not recognized" and after trying to get it to work I tried it on my mom's computer again and now it would recognize the drive either. I've tried about every option I've seen when I searched for a solution and nothing has worked.

Yes, yes, I have a degree in computer science, but hardware is so not my thing it's not even funny. So anyone on my f-list who does understand this stuff? Help me out, please.
