I'm still working on getting everything reposted, and there's always a chance for new stuff. But here's the (in progress) masterlist of my fanworks.
Fanfic should be up to date (with a couple Old Shame fics to be done eventually (and some tourney entries maybe), vids linked to lj list, "graphics" nothing yet

Oh the woes of writing brain
Jan. 21st, 2023 01:02 pmSo here's how writing can progress in my brain:
Stage 1: So there's the fic concept (somewhat fandom specific), and I have read a few good fics with it, but I always have to tamp down my feelings that it's a little contrived. I mean, I'll keep reading them if they sound good on a case by case basis because I have liked stories with that trope, but I don't think I'll write it.
Stage 2: Okay, so that specific fic concept, what if I tweaked it a little? It ends up getting to a similar point in some ways, but takes out some of the things that bother me in the more standard version? Hmm, might be worth thinking about...
Stage 3: Okay, but have you thought about a different completely mutually exclusive way to avoid those niggles that you realized bother you? I mean sure it has it's own niggles, and the more I think about it the more I seem inclined to build a convoluted plot going on in the background that it takes forever for the main characters to realize is going on. But maybe?
Stage 4: Have you considered an even more convoluted plot with 60 moving parts that somehow both throws out 90% of canon *and* relies on parts of canon that you don't recall very well?
...Bring it on.
Sometimes I miss the days when my brain was capable of thinking of small little fics that didn't spiral into massive epics that I'll never manage to write.

On writing...
Jul. 9th, 2022 04:55 pmFic writing be like:
Me: you know, sometimes I think I should write some shorter fic. I mean I have these fics that are little more than PWP that are 10k long, do they need to be that long when the plot is mostly just there to justify the porn?
Brain: How about a probably 20k fic of similar plot to porn ratio, with the added benefit of going to special hell?
Me: What? Why?
Brain: here, have a whole AU while we’re at it. Lots of special hell this way.
Me: …damn it, me, you know we have a weakness for plotting out years of characters lives following them deciding to have sex one time.
Brain: and then usually not writing it, just knowing we want to.
Me: aaaarrrggggg

So, given that there are rumblings of lj going away (for a while or for good) due to the current world situation, I am probably going to join the ranks of people backing up their old journals into DW. I probably should have done it a while ago anyway since I do even less with my lj than dw. I don't know that this will be noticeable to the few people who follow me, I've never bothered with doing this before, but I thought I would give a heads up before I did it.
Also when I fell off of doing Snowflake this year I kind of thought I would actually try posting a bit more on this blog. I hadn't been doing that, so this is also kind of my 'I haven't posted anything here in a while' post. There isn't anything particularly interesting to report; battling muses (both the ones who want to hide and the somewhat over-zealous ones), watching/reviewing Buffy, not wanting to pay attention to the real world stuff lest my anxiety kick into an extra gear I'm not in the mood to deal with.
So how are you?

Upcoming shift
Mar. 13th, 2022 11:59 amSo there are rumblings that the current world situation will lead to lj going away or at least being hidden away. So I think I will finally transfer my back-catalog here over to DW.
Not that this makes a huge difference as I've been posting primarily on DW anyway for a while now (mostly on my review blog admittedly over my anything else blog). But I thought I would say something before I flip the next switch on this process.

In your own space, put some favorite characters into an AU, fuse some favorite canons together, talk about your favorite AU/fusion tropes, or tell us why AU/fusions aren’t your cup of tea. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Oh, I like this one, it gives me a chance to think back on one of my odder little fandom forays.
( An abridged version is still kind of long )

I don’t know that I have a lot of fresh goals for this year. Especially since making a list here is going to be very fandom oriented. But putting some goals into words helped me accomplish a couple of things last year, so maybe it will have some benefit.

In your own space, update your fandom information! Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Because I use this journal so infrequently (especially until the last couple years) it has kept slipping my mind that I should bother listing my interests. But, maybe I would use it more frequently if I thought people might find me by interest (mostly fandom), so maybe I should.
Then I thought that I should expand this project, so now I have a list of things to do. It’s not a long list, but here’s what I did. I’m sure it’s not a complete list of interests, but it’s a few that are worth starting with.
Update my interests + profile at large
Update tori_reviews interests

Dec. 31st, 2021 12:03 pmHappy New Year to all, has everyone had a good year? I mean, I didn't and the world is still a mess, but maybe find something good about it?
Yeah, I basically ignored this journal all year, just posting the couple of fics I finished, but I have been posting plenty to
tori_reviews and even did a pretty good job sticking with it this year. Well, better than past years, though I'm at a bit of a crossroads over there and not sure what I'm going to focus on next year.
However, to reward myself for sticking with it, I have decided to for once after...going on 15 years of journal-land get myself a paid account and so now I need to go on a search for appropriate icons. I haven't actually looked for new icons in a while, just content to stick with what I picked years ago. I'm kind of looking forward to it. Although I probably will keep the pixy stix as my default, it's kind of my brand.
Also, I will be posting at least in January, as I think I'll try and do Snowflake again. So I'll see you there.

Doctor Who news
Sep. 24th, 2021 11:51 amWow, it's been a long time since I had some Doctor Who news I just had to talk about but...
RTD is coming back as showrunner
I'm honestly not even sure I know how I feel about this. I left Doctor Who behind a long time ago, but this...this will bring me back. And I kind of don't want to go back, but I want this so much that I can't not go back for it.
I have some time to work out how I feel about it before we get to the new Rusty era, which is good because I left my interest in DW lying around here somewhere, and it's beeping now but I can't quite find it yet.

Fic: Not a Moment too Soon
Sep. 23rd, 2021 12:00 pmI finished this fic that has been sitting around for ages. Thank you
wipbigbang
Story Title: Not a Moment too Soon
Fandom: Agents of SHIELD
Link: On AO3
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 13,453
Summary: Do not go gentle into that good night ~ Dylan Thomas
Five scenarios where Phil Coulson decided that he wouldn’t just accept his impending death. And one where he didn’t get to choose.
(Set post season 5, all Philinda, partially Infinity War compliant, entirely unconnected possibilities for something to happen in Tahiti that would convince Coulson he wasn’t ready to die after all.)
Warnings: Spoilers for AoS s5 and Infinity War; Infinity War sometimes happens and so losses expected in those sections. Themes of death, illness, and loss. Non-graphic sex
Characters: Phil Coulson, Melinda May, cameos by many AoS characters and Avengers
Pairings: Phil Coulson/Melinda May
Disclaimer: Agents of SHIELD, the Marvel universe, and Tahiti are not mine
When I Started: Well, it would have been post AoS s5 and IW, so summer 2018
How I Lost My Shit: I got the story out but I knew it wasn’t good enough to post, unfortunately I didn’t have a beta reader at the time to help me get it into shape so it stayed in my drafts folder for a while and I eventually forgot about it
How I Finished My Shit: Unfortunately, this wasn’t the fic I had wanted to get done for this year’s WIPBB, but fortunately the challenge gave me the chance to pull this out of mothballs and finally get it ready to share. It took enough editing that I’m glad I didn’t try and do it on my own, but I think I’m happy with the final form.
Notes: So many thanks to the wonderful people who beta read this for me, some on short notice. I Couldn't have done it without you.

Fic: Burdened, not Broken (AoS)
Mar. 17th, 2021 07:46 pmTitle: Burdened, not Broken
Fandom: Agents of SHIELD
Characters/Pairings: May/Coulson (with brief appearance from Ward)
Rating: NC-17 for smut, but it’s smut with feelings
Word Count: 11278
Summary: Following events with the Berserker Staff, May is struggling with the best way to process her emotions. But she doesn't want to control her feelings where Coulson is concerned. And there's no one she would rather lose control with.
Disclaimer: AoS/the MCU/Marvel characters are not mine
Spoilers/Warnings: While this diverges from canon in 1x08, there are spoilers for things revealed much later in canon (but I don’t think anything past s4; and the big spoiler is s1). There are various backstory traumas discussed (Couslon’s death, events in Bahrain). Extremely-mildly dubious consent (partially discussed)
Author's Notes: Many, many thinks to my beta reader for getting this fic to its final form and me to be willing to put it out there.

So the best I could do on short notice is getting down a compressed version of my view of how the CW's 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' should have ended for Oliver. Because it makes no sense for him to have been dead at the end of that story. And yes, I used a modified/truncated
1sentence format because the snapshot format really does help me...skip stones across a fic idea without needing to get down in the depths of it. Also, obviously unbeted, not even properly edited by me (if I end up expanding it or something I would need to do both) and basically rushed out and posted before I had time to convince myself it wasn't worth sharing even for this challenge.

(There probably is an interpretation of this prompt that didn't have to be fandom related, but it went on to talk about fannish things, so that's also where my mind went.)
I will recommend my ongoing review project over at
tori_reviews. I'm just getting going on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but there's also a back catalog of other fandoms, often with more detailed takes that Clone Wars (hee, I had that abbreviated CW but thought that might be confusing since I have reviewed some CW shows before) is getting so far, but it's just starting and I could easily develop more to discuss as it goes. I'd say my Agents of SHIELD reviews have a lot of thoughts in them if you're interested.
And for reccing my own creative work, I'll pick a few of my favorites, but you can look through the whole list of fic and vids if you're so inclined. I'm not going to rec any vids since it's been a long time since I went through them and don't have strong feelings about most anymore; though if you check them out I'd steer towards the later ones, the early ones are pretty rough unless you find you really like my style, especially the attempt at conversation between lyrics and video; it's there in the early ones, but the editing is rougher.

Challenge #8
In your own space, create a wishlist. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I wish I could find a beta reader for my AoS fic. I've got a couple that wouldn't take much for me to send to a beta, and a couple more that if I knew I had someone to help me polish them I'd probably finally finish them. Some have been sitting around for a while but I'm not confident enough on my own to do anything with them.
I wish fandom would find a new home (as in not tumblr or twitter) and that it would be one with comment threads; that was a mistake for fandom to lose.
I wish for some comments on one of my old fics or vids; I recognize my own fault for leaving things in journal-land instead of AO3, but I feels like some things have never been read. Or if someone wanted to pop in for a discussion on one or more of my reaction/reviews.
I wish we could stop living in interesting times.
I wish I could find a couple of old fics from fandoms past that were unfinished and maybe never were, but I didn't keep track of them to know.

Mostly fandom memes, but also friending memes, kink memes, challenge memes; all the stuff that circled around and knit the community together. I went back through my lj archives and found a few fandom memes I wouldn't mind resurrecting. But I'm also going to challenge others to do the same thing, since we come from a lot of different fandoms we probably had different memes that made the rounds. So you can reply challenging me do answer these and/or link to your own; or you can answer some of them here with your fandom of choice
( These ended up being more shipping focused that I intended, but that doesn't exactly surprise me )
