There are several of these coming tomorrow/later today I guess, but this was the only one I managed to get through tonight.

Tell me you want to play and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. Then update your journal and answer the following questions:

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

[livejournal.com profile] scorpiod1 asked me about TVD, GoT/ASOAIF and Avatar: The Last Airbender

TVD

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?

During the middle of season 2 like half of my f-list went through a phase of falling in love with the show in really rapid succession and I decided to follow suit. I could probably say this one was Frances’s fault too, I’m pretty certain it was her falling hard for the show that convinced me to give it a try more than the others. It’s weird because while we like a lot of the same shows we often don’t like the same things about those shows, so I take her advice on what to watch but end up liking it for different reasons.

2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?

I don’t know. I mean, eventually I’ll move on of course, best case scenario one day the show will end and at some point down the line some other show will be new and shiny and rise up in its place. I’m not sure my love affair with the show will last that long though, the future is of course unknown.

3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?

I blame the timeline of the show for me not really being able to pick out individual episodes as standout ones. But because I’m a sucker of the climaxes of stories, Founder’s Day (in its poorly punctuated self), Klaus/The Last Day/The Sun Also Rises, but then I have loved The Reckoning, Bringing Out The Dead and All My Children this season.

4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?

It’s managed to weasel its way into getting reaction posts out of me (though I never finished last week’s, the thoughts never gelled right, I have the bits I wrote on hand if it becomes relevant to post later). Some fanfic (I keep starting things and not finishing them, but I have *lots* of things started right now) and I would really like to vid some but my muses are more in fanfic land for this show for now it seems.

5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

Eh...yes and no. Fandom seems pretty big as is but that may just be my exposure to it. I think there are probably people out there who would like it but haven’t watched it yet though (I got my sister watching it a while back, although I don’t think she actually likes it she found it pretty addictive, which how I was at first too). So I don’t feel the need to push it on all the people out there, but if I thought they’d be interested sure.

GoT/ASOIAF

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?

A friend of mine was reading them...years ago now and started telling me some of the stuff about them. I thought it was interesting but had to ask her like 10 times who wrote them before it stuck in my head when I was at the library (she probably would have just loaned them to me if we still lived in the same town at that point). She had mainly told me stuff from Dany’s story so I was pretty surprised to find so much of it wasn’t about that, and how much I loved the stuff she hadn’t thought was important to talk about. I was hooked pretty early but I can’t remember by exactly what (probably politics, incest, and defenestration in rapid succession).

2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?

I think I will always love these books, they really aren’t like anything else I’ve read even though I feel like fantasy writers are starting to incorporate more of GRRM’s style these days. But will I always be in “fandom” for it...probably for a while but maybe not forever.

3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?

I love everything about the first three books and most of 4*&5**. And as far as the show goes, pretty much the back half of season 1 was gold.

*If it doesn’t take place in The Iron Islands or Dorne
**If it’s about anyone but Dany

4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?

I’ve written small bits of fanfic, started a couple vids (one I suppose I could post since it’s a short one that I’m probably not going to get around to completing the long version). I actually don’t talk about it a lot because I don’t know what people I might be talking about it with know about the series in its entirety and I don’t want to accidentally spoil anyone. But give me a book-fans unpopular opinions thread and watch me go wild with my Targ-hate.

5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

YES YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES. I’ve gotten my mom to read the book and she usually hates fantasy (she loves sci-fi but hates fantasy), I gave them out as a Christmas gift last year, I tried to get my sister to read them but she likes the show better. Just PEOPLE NEED TO EXPERIENCE THE AWSOME THAT IS ASOIAF AND/OR GAME OF THRONES.

A:tLA

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?

[livejournal.com profile] a_white_rain’s constant love for the show. And then a friend of mine having the episodes on hand and us needing something to watch one night. I’m pretty sure I was hooked right from the start on this one.

2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?

I’m not really in the fandom as such and I never was. And I really don’t think I’ll get real active over Korra either, it’s a show I like (and in Korra’s case hope to like), but it doesn’t inspire a lot of fannish type love. But the cartoons will always be there to be awesome.

3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?

Damn, it’s been long enough since I watched it that their kind of fuzzing together. Pretty much all the Ba-Sing-Seh eps because I eat that kind of stuff up. And the finale for reasons that seem obvious.

4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?

Not really. I’ve had a couple passing vid ideas but never done anything with them, depending on how much I get into Korra I may start discussing more at least.

5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

Yes, because there is so much to love about this show. But I also realize that it’s not for everyone, but I think everyone should at least give it a chance.

A million times yes to both of these. I'm midway through book four and I'm stuck in Dorne. I just do not give a shit about them or the characters from the Iron Islands. 432 pages and I STILL haven't encountered Tyrion again.

And Dany is pissing me right the hell off.

I love the second season of ATLA more than is healthy.
