This is a fandom journal so I'm going to make what amounts to New Years resolutions only as pertains to fandom; if I get into life stuff it will just make me sad. Either way, they do say if you want to make god laugh tell him your plans, so this may all come to naught.

Let's start with a couple of goals I really intend to do:

-Keep up a good schedule and pace with tori_reviews, I did better last year than I had before, but I think I can still do better.
-Find a beta reader and someone I can talk through fic ideas with (hopefully the same person, but I'd take separate if needs be). At the very least figure out how to find such a person in a very different fandom landscape to when I last had someone like that.


Then the small/medium goals that I could probably do if I set my mind to it:

-Remaster some of my old fic and upload to AO3 (or figure out how to word a header that makes clear it was written at another point in fandom opinion)
-Try vidding again, I used to do it a lot and I miss it sometimes.
-Reread ASOIAF, it's been years since I read it at this point; I always said I'd wait until GRRM gave us a time for WoW, now maybe I can trick the universe into taking my reread as a sign that the book needs to come out.


Then a couple big goals that I hope I can do but seem too big now.
-ACTUALLY FINISH ONE OF THOSE HUGE FIC IDEAS, even if it's just book 1 and I have plans for books 2-5, have a completed story that can stand on its own.
-I've wanted to try doing a podcast for a long time; like introducing someone else to a series I really like and sharing the experience with anyone who wants to listen in. In a serious way, I think if I actually accomplished this, it would send a message to my social anxiety riddled brain that I can open myself up to at least an online community even if I still struggle with in person people. And I'd feel like I was developing a skill, which would also help.

Someday Winds of Winter will come out, someday, but I highly doubt GRRM will ever finish A Dream of Spring, which I'm kind of sad about, I really wanted to read his ending for the story.

I haven't given up on DoS, but it does seem pretty improbable. I like to hope that the reason for the delay is that he wants to have all his ducks in a row in that one so he doesn't tie himself in knots doing DoS; or (related to that) maybe that he's realized but refused to accept that there's too much material for two books and can;t get all the ducks in a row in one book because of that.

a podcast sounds super cool. maybe if you know someone who hasn't experienced a particular series, it could be you introducing it to them it by bit (book by book, episode by episode, etc) with listeners getting the introduction too. or something else! just the fact that you have an idea for a podcast is really neat.

a good beta and person-to-discuss-fic-ideas-with is worth their weight in gold. good luck! they're out there.

I'm far from the first person with the podcast thought, there are dozens if not hundreds of fandom podcasts out there (not to mention any number of YouTube reaction channels) just like I have thoughts for. But I can't seem to find anyone who wants to work with me. Most of my rl friends are too busy and/or just not interested and I basically don't have a lot of fandom friends at the moment (much less anyone I have a good vibe with and feel confident would be able to put up with me stumbling around while I get the hang of what we're doing). So for now it remains an idea, and I stick to just writing my tv thoughts.
