TO THE MAX

Okay so I'm a total nerd, and the extent to which I take my random inclinations is a matter of proving it.
So last night I found myself thinking about the Hogwarts houses. Not so much the Harry Potter series, which I think I've pretty much fallen out of love with. It more or less started out about general nerdish ways of sorting characters (which, if you can think of any besides D&D alignment, Hogwarts houses, and ASOIAF houses let me know, that doesn't feel like enough to make a meme of it, but I'd like to with a couple more).
Next thought train, cross houses and naming them, then in taking it TO THE MAX I decided every combination of houses should be named. So this afternoon I've been doing that. But now that I've discovered the naming system isn't directly representative of the relative weight the houses should have in the naming set they're in (if a character is Gryffindor, then Slytherin, with a touch of Ravenclaw, the number letter from Slytherin should not outnumber the number for Gryffindor). Yes I went though and numbered the number of letters from each components, plan to put it into percentages, and then see if I can position them better that way, even if it means they're not necessarily used in order of intended weight.
This was supposed to be a reasonably sized meta on the pros and ons of the houses that JKR didn't necessarily get into and that a lot of characters fall into a couple of different categories just to give examples. But no I had to go to heightened levels of nerddom for it.

Date: 2009-05-29 05:39 pm (UTC)Ironically this started out in Robin Hood territory, that Robin highlights the problems with Gryffindor for me, that Guy is a total Sltyherin/Hufflepuff (which is dominant tends to vary) (and which lead to the naming thing) to Vasey's Slytherin with a dash of Ravenclaw. Which lead to the realization that Marian is kind of a little of everything, less Hufflepuff but still a bit.
I suppose I could post the whole list, but just to answer those examples:
Slytherin/Gryffindor/Ravenclaw (although I would put Snape as S-R-G in order) I have: Slyffinclaw (which if you look is an example of my percentage problem in that the name is G-R-S instead of S-G-R)
G-R-H I have as:Gryvenpuff (also flawed percentage-wise)
I'm always up for a meme, if I could think of a way to do it...
