Title: Half Lucky / Not Always Lucky
Author:
jedi_of_urth
Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters/Pairings: Ten/Rose/Cloen
Rating: G
Word Count: 100 x 2 (two drabbles)
Summary: The Doctors reflect on whether they really were born lucky
Disclaimer: I just write fic, RTD writes the stuff that makes me need it
Author's Notes/Warnings (fic): Spoilers through Journey’s End, trying to make myself feel better about how it went down.
Author’s Notes (flashback): Originally posted July 2008, basically right about JE aired. I still haven’t made my peace with the episode.
Ten II: Half Lucky
It’s his own face in the mirror, but also another’s. There’s another man in another universe with the same face, and what that man has and doesn’t have all strikes him whenever he looks in the mirror. They share a face, the same soul, duplicated yet connected.
They’re the same man, but with one key difference. He knows his double as he knows himself, and he knows the other still dreams of the life he gets to lead.
Looking at the reflection of himself and the other man, he says, “I’m sorry.”
Half of him got lucky, he got her.
Ten I: Not Always Lucky
He barely knows the man he sees in the mirror any more, when he even looks. Technically he’s still the same man, but he knows he’s not.
There’s another man with the same face, leading another life in another universe, that man is the real him. They should be the same man, in many ways they are, but that man lives a life he only dreams about.
“Lucky bastard,” he says sometimes, looking in the mirror and imagining it’s the other man looking back.
He once thought he was lucky this time around, but that was when he had her.
