So, while waiting for my weekly TW crack, I'll take the time to review something else I watched earlier. I finally thought to and did get my hand on the third Anne of Green Gables movie (I'm not even sure how old it is forgot to check*, but it was the first time I'd seen it).

Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story

I think the first third or so was my favorite part, re-falling in love with these characters I've loved for so long but also more...Anne-story than war movie which it progressively morphed into. Although the part in London was also pretty good, just anytime it went into war movie territory out on the front lines it didn't work for me as well.

Was this one actually based on any of the books? If I've ever read any of them I don't think I made it much past the first one, I know the movie version of Anne of Avonlea was a hodge-podge of books and I even own a couple of them but never managed to read them (now I'm kind of in the mood if I knew where my book collection from when I was a kid got to, there is also this thing called a library I suppose).

Not being certain about the show's adherence to book stories I was only 99% sure Gil would be fine but it was enough uncertainty that I was quite worried for him at times. I'm not sure which actor/writer/director gets credit for making me ache along with Anne in uncertainty when 99% of me was sure it would end well but someone did a fine job pulling it off.

It was kind of funny that Anne and Diana looked much older but Gil really didn't. The actresses actually looked like years had passed since they last played these characters, but the guy playing Gil much much less so. Also, Gil is still absolutely adorable and wonderful, I want a Gilbert of my own one day.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm getting my hands on more Anne footage so I can make sappy Anne/Gil vids, or maybe just Anne is awesome vids, but probably sappy ones because that's the way I work.

*Went to check; wow, 2000, I managed to miss this for a while.

I quietly loathe this movie, because the book they borrowed from(very, very liberal about the meaning of the term 'borrowed,' here) is so much better. WWI occurs in Anne-time right about when her oldest son turns 20. Ie, pretty much all of her children(not her and Gil) end up being involved in it somehow. I won't tell you any more, should you want to read for yourself. It's probably my favorite Anne-book after Anne of the Island. It's the book they SHOULD have made into a movie.

It's not bad as a stand-alone movie. And I have to say that normally, I'm not the canon-nazi when it comes to making books into movies. I liked the version of Mansfield Park that Billie Piper was in quite a lot and it had some real departures from the text(ie, a lot of people hated it). This, though...I had trouble dealing with it because they bypassed a perfectly good storyline so completely.
