Pondering multi-Doctor stuff

So don't ask me why because I'm really not sure, I was pondering multi-Doctor stories and I had a kind of odd thought.


I don't think Nine would deal well with multi-Doctor stories and I honestly can't see Ten doing well at it for very long. For short times like Tome Crash he can fanboy it up, to actually face other versions of himself for any length of time I think would not end well.

I think Nine and Ten would actually not get along with each other all that well, they're just too much alike in all the ways that would really annoy them from the outside, and they would pick at the differences. Hell even while Ten was with Five and completely geeking out over it there was still some mockery going on.

I'm not sure Nine would have real problems with the idea of becoming Ten but I do think he'd pick; and for Ten I almost think he'd feel bad for what he's done with the life Nine left him (running out of time with Rose, falling back into darkness Nine worked so hard to climb out of).

However Nine and Ten in an extended multi-Doctor story with several others, they would find they agreed on everything, whether ragging on other Doctors' fashion sense (as compared to Six, picking on Ten's hair styling is so very minor), being on the outside when it came to Gallifrey related stuff, or trying to justify his new found capacity for love to Old School Doctors; they're the only two who would really understand each other.

Why did I feel this was important pondering? I'm still not sure.

You are totally right.

Nine and Ten would also, I feel, be slightly jealous of each other with Rose. And post-Doomsday!Ten would be frustrated with Nine for not getting it together with Rose earlier.

But I agree in a multi-multi-Doctor story, those two would definitely stick together - they've got a common ground of Time War angst and Rose to stick to.

I can also imagine just how disapproving One would be of Ten :)

I think that would depend some one when in their respective existences they met, and if there was Rose there, and which one. And I'm not sure it's competitive jealousy of the "Why doesn't she act like that with me?" type but more...timing jealousy "He doesn't even know what's coming," sort.

And post-Doomsday/pre-reunion Ten would really have a hard time seeing them together I think. However Nine with say a post-reunion Ten (with or without Rose present, it'll come up) would really envy their life.

I think most of the Old School Doctors would take issue with Ten, less issues with Nine, partly because Nine can keep his mouth shut from time to time.

Now I really want to see this in fic. A long, all Doctor story...I'm not sure I've ever really seen that.

I can't say I have either, occasionally meeting but I can't recall any real exploration of how they would work together (I suppose that has a lot to do with New Who ficcers not necessarily feeling comfortable with Old School a lot of the time, I know I can't even attempt to write very many of the old Doctors). A little bit of knowledge can let you write them in brief, but to actually have them interact for a long time that takes more.

Tell me about it. I've faked my way through a few Classic Who references and one brief vision of all Ten Doctors, but I would love to see someone who really knows their stuff tackle it.

Hell I've watched all of Five and I feel like I'm faking my way through my Alt-Five story simply because I haven't pored over those stories from every angle and considered all the subtext and stuff. Maybe I should try and rewatch some of them for characterization reasons, but I keep not doing it.

But the only ones I could even attempt to write are Four (though I have a really hard time getting into his head), Five, and Eight (largely because he's such an open book to me after TVM canon I feel justified faking whatever I feel like).
