At some point I’ll start watching all my shows again (at some other point I’ll finish catching up on shows I’ve been accumulating) but when I’m only watching a few I admit I tend to let posting the reviews slip. So here’s some catching up.

The Good Place 2x08
I know I said I probably wouldn’t review these very often, but I needed to say some things about this one. I really liked it, but I have a bad feeling that the writers don’t expect to get another season. Admittedly I do still suspect this could lead to a larger revelation about the whole system at play, but watching this I wonder if it’s equally likely to end the story at the end of the season. Mindy finally got her cocaine (and a sexbot), and I’m actually quite happy for her, but it gives me meta feelings.

Agents of SHIELD 5x06
To start with, I rewatched 5x05, and I did like it better on second watch, which I think says good things for my future enjoyment of this season when I revisit it down the road.

And I did like this episode...for certain values of enjoy. I liked all the FitzSimmons stuff, and the stuff around Flint was largely good. I’m not happy that Tess is dead (I was less attached to Ben, but I suppose that’s also part of my point of confused enjoyment), though as the likely end of this plot is everyone we meet in the future ends up dead, it was likely only a matter of time.

It occurs to me that I’m not sure the temporal mechanics work out for Fitz to be in the same future as the rest of them if Skye was the one to destroy the world. By the time Fitz left, Skye could not go on to destroy the world; yes, technically speaking as soon as they left they couldn’t have ended up in that future, but I can just about say that the universes split at that moment and they moved ahead along the timeline that would have happened without their leaving, but Fitz was firmly into the timeline where they (especially Skye) left therefor couldn’t destroy the world. Logically, and this episode sticks with it, Skye’s powers don’t seem to reach world ending levels (as much as the last few episodes have made me a bit nervous whenever she uses her powers that she could quake apart what’s left of humanity), so that may be the next mystery.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend 3x08
I didn’t care for that one musically and I’m not sure how I felt about it in general. Definitely back into the more uncomfortable stuff after taking a couple episodes off from that. I don’t actually think I have a lot to say about it, seems I usually don’t; maybe this is the show I should reconsider actually trying to review.

The Good Place 2x09
So I’m guessing we’re powering towards the finale (last season was 12 eps – or was it 13? – so probably not next week...wait I think I counted the premier as one ep, so maybe the next will be the season finale...or did I miss number 7 and this is 9...I have no idea how far we are from the end), and I have to admit I’m pretty worried for these bozos. Like they say, they have nothing to lose really, but still, I love all these idiots and I just want to see them be happy, but I also don’t want this to end, so I don’t know what I want at the moment.

Agents of SHIELD 5x07
This was a pretty good episode. I’m less and less willing to commit too much in these reactions because I can feel how much my opinion of all this will be decided on the overall story instead of the individual episodes. It doesn’t help that I’m continually denied Philinda bones to gnaw on, throw me a bone writers.

I will say that ever since the Fitz focused episode, the chances of this turning out the be a Framework scenario have pretty much vanished, not that those odds were ever high I just didn’t mind it lurking in the back of my mind as a possibility. That episode more of less killed the possibility, and since then we’ve been getting more of the villains without our heroes around. I don’t know how I feel about making the villains more involved characters; it’s probably the right idea but I can’t say I care that much.

Also, while I understand that this is part of Mack’s (and to a somewhat lesser extent Elena’s) need to prove parental ability, they’re taking a pretty big risk not going with the rest of the team. The two of them are really the biggest powerhouses right now (along with the new kid). Admittedly they are probably going need to get back to level 3 anyway, but I’m not crazy about this notion.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend 3x09
I liked that episode, it was uncomfortable in parts, but I think the balance was about right. And it was one of the best pair of songs we’ve had in a while, I liked both of them for once. Granted the placement balance was a little off and left a long gap between songs to where I felt like I was waiting to get the second one, but I still liked them both.

The Good Place 2x10
That was a really fun episode, I basically just enjoyed it start to finish. Much as I don’t want it to end, I am quite interested to see what happens next.

Agents of SHIELD 5x08
I liked that episode, but I didn’t love it, and I kind of feel like I want to love it. I wish we’d gotten a more full view of the flashbacks to a future that is likely never going to be. I am glad that in that timeline Fitz always remained convinced that time couldn’t be changed, even if the Fitz we have has become a bit more willing to give it a chance even if he doesn’t believe it.

I like the idea of this as part of May’s story, that life may have been terrible, but it did give her some closure, raising an Inhuman child as her own. I don’t know if I see that happening in the timeline they’ll create, but we’ll have to see. I’m pretty sure Coulson was dead in that timeline, which is the only reason he wasn’t able to be dad.

I’m still not entirely convinced Skye destroyed the world, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if she opted to leave the inhibiter in (or they can’t remove it) but do find the tech to turn it on and off, thus giving them a failsafe if she does go super-Quake. Also I can think of people like Black Bolt (who may well be the one responsible for ending the world) who might want them to reverse engineer that inhibiter chip when they get back.

I definitely see how Flint is the one to help send them back; I don’t understand how they got here if the monolith was in pieces, but I can sure see how Flint could put it back together. And if the movies didn’t come down so hard on ignoring AoS (and all the TV shows) I’d say Robin’s babbling about Coulson putting the pieces together is setup for him putting the Avengers back together in the next movie.

Arrow 6x10
I’ll probably catch up on SG before long, and probably give Flash a shot down the road, but for now, while Legends isn’t on, Arrow is the only one of these shows that’s need to watch.

I think I liked that episode pretty well. Though I think there’s a lot of paying lip-service to how difficult it is to carry on vigilante activities without it ever seeming like they have to try too hard, and that’s kind of annoying. If they’re going to go down that plot road they should have a better idea of doing something with it.

It’s hard to argue with Team B that there are problems with the full team Arrow; I’ve observed since last season that there was always an A Team and a B Team, Original Team Arrow was always separate from the rest, and there are other members of the Arrow Family that still get more consideration than the recruits, who are not exactly new recruits at this point. I’ve always been curious how Roy would have figured in if he showed up for a few episodes (seems like he still could if they need some manpower), as he was usually the odd one out in his day, but I feel like he’s the odd one out of the Family rather than odd one out of the Team, if you can follow my meaning. Hell, I’d argue that Oliver tends to show more commitment to Slade than he does half of his team.

But at the same time I feel like they’re being hypocrites that how dare anyone track their phones when they do it to other people ALL THE DAMN TIME. It’s one of their main tools, right after arrows. Team A didn’t bug Team B, they just distrusted them and not at random. While that’s not super ethical or legal or good for being a team that trusts (or triumphs), the first time Team B starts tracking anyone from their new extra techy layer, they’re proving it’s a necessary part of their job. I just have a hard time being sympathetic when no one objects to these actions until it’s directed at them and you know they’re going to turn around and keep using them even after this happened.

I also want to talk about Thea. I always like Thea and Quentin’s relationship so it was good to get a lot of that here, along with some sweet Oliver and Thea time. I’ve missed this and I’m glad Thea’s back. But, Thea, Malcolm did not change; he was in some ways changeable as the wind, definitely and whims, but he didn’t fundamentally change. He was still the asshole who drugged her into killing Sara, then drugged her again to keep her compliant for Darhk, then teamed up with past-Darhk and Thawne and rewrote reality. Yes, in the end he sacrificed himself for Thea (assuming he’s dead, which I still have difficulty believing), and she’s allowed to think that showed some qualities, but that’s not redemption.

Also, I think I caught a mention that Helena is in the wind rather than jail, so we’ll see if that goes anywhere.
