TV rundown of the week

Downton Abbey 6x01
Well, Fellows seems to be on the same page as me for the bittersweet ending probability. It’s well done as usual and could be going interesting places, it’s a difficult series to know for sure until there’s more of a picture to judge from but looks good for now.
Castle 8x01
I was worried for a while that I’d missed a memo and Stana was going to do a Duchovny and not really be in this season. And on some level I wasn’t 100% bothered by that as it would set up a true arc for the season; but on most levels I was against it since Kate’s pretty much the real lead on the show. And then it kept escalating and it really couldn’t go that way so I wasn’t really surprised to realize next week will be Beckett’s side of things. I’m still not sure how they’ll resolve it in one more episode but we’ll see. I do think we’re headed for a bit of a reset within a few episodes, because Beckett as captain also messes with the show’s formula too much, although my first guess was that it was setup for Caskett babies since it’s a lot easier to see that happening if Kate’s working a desk job.
The Muppets 1x01
While I’m not throwing in the towel right off, this was a reminder that while I like the Muppet movies I’ve never been real into their television work. I hope to eat those words soon because I always want to like Muppets stuff, and I’m not giving up after one episode, but I’m a lot more cautious now.
Heroes Reborn 1x01-02 (kind of)
That was...odd/ It was sort of whiplash between the plots, since Noah’s plot is so obviously part of a long running story, and Tommy’s (and the hunting pair) plot feels very much part of the Heroes world; but the other plots feels really out of step (although realizing one of them was Molly’s story helped some). The LA plot might have been an okay addition but the Tokyo plot did not work for me at all, and the LA plot suffered with me because of that. So it’s a mixed bag, but all the plots could be going somewhere and I’ll look back and think I misjudged it here. As I keep saying with these opening episodes, we’ll see where it goes before I make any real decisions.
Haven’t gotten to Saving Hope yet, and that’s all that’s back this week. I’ll have plenty more to comment on next week.
