Downton and SHIELD

So the more I think about it, the more I have a couple things I need to say about this week’s Downton Abbey...
Downton Abbey 5x06
Is anyone else getting a really end of series vibe from this season? I can’t find anything that says this is the final season, but everything kind of feels like it’s heading towards endgame here.
I actually think one of the things that makes it feel the most end-like is reviving the Mary-Edith conflict that really hasn’t been a thing in years. Sure they aren’t close, they probably never would be, but they haven’t really had it out with each other in ages. And really, I expected better of Mary on this particular subject, since she basically shut down for months after Matthew’s death and all (I guess maybe we missed out on seeing Edith be a jerk about that at some point, but I mostly call it weird writing).
Also, it’s like the writers finally got my mental complaining that Isis is getting damn old for a dog that was full grown in the pilot. No one ever wants a dog to die, but I’ve been thinking for at least a season that it was an oversight of the writers that she was still spry as if it had only been five years instead of 12.
Also I guess I have a couple comments on tonight’s SHIELD
AoS 2x06
When it comes to the Ward family issues, all I can say is: I don’t know that I believe Christian’s version of events, but I know I don’t believe Grant’s (it’s always weird to call him by his first name, but obviously I can’t call him Ward here). It felt like everything he said was to get Skye to let him out of the cage, although then I was half expecting there to be a double bluff with Coulson finding a way not to turn him over because he’s SHIELD’s responsibility if nothing else. But the final confrontation between Ward (Grant that is) and Coulson was really effective for me; the idea of them having staring matches early on, Ward deluded idea that he was still part of the team, Coulson’s cutting honesty about what was going on here, yeah I dug it. I still feel nothing when it comes to him and Skye, but him and Phil I thought was a good scene.
So when we were told late last season that May had been married I didn’t invest much in it, figured the writers would get to it if and when it became relevant. But bringing it up here feels like they’re setting up for a revelation on that front. And in spite of my ship tastes, I never gave a ton of credence to the idea that it was her and Coulson, I thought there were other avenues they could go with that nugget of backstory that would have more story to it; but right now I’m kind of giving that theory more consideration. Because May so did not actually answer the question about still talking to her ex (also clearly did not want did not want to be put in the middle of Lance and Bobbi’s issues, though they kept putting her there).
I’m getting over my suspicion from last week the Bobbi had been brainwashed by Hydra and was back as a double agent. I didn’t want that to be the case, but I had a feeling it might be what was going on. I’m less suspicious now, but if it happens I still wouldn’t be completely surprised.
Poor FitzSimmons...just...poor Fitz-and-Simmons. It’s not entirely a surprise, but man, poor Fitz and Simmons. (Mack is great though.)
Damn, looks like the next episode is called ‘The Writing on the Wall’ that sounds like it’ll a right cheery time (though plenty of time for May/Coulson angst and possible past marriage revelations).
(Hmm, I was feeling more parenthetical about this than I realized.)
