Title: Living In Her Shadow
Song: The Woman Before Me
Artist: Trisha Yearwood
Details: 17 MB, 3:52 long, wmv file, spoilers through "Evolution of the Daleks"
Made By: jedi_of_urth
Description: Even though Martha thinks the Doctor is interested in her, she is coming to realize that he is still in love with Rose. She wants to be the one to be there for him, but the memory of Rose is always there.
Located at: MediaFire | Savefile
In short, this video is to show the difference between what I think Martha believes happened to Rose and what really happened. Basically, I was trying to highlight that by the song saying essentially that 'She must have hurt you' and the video showing that they were just happy and in love.
For the record, I may be projecting my reading of the Doctor-Martha dynamic onto my reading of the video, but since it also colored by making the video, and was in fact the reason for it, I think I'm entitled to know how it's supposed to be read. Also, it's caused me to completely reexamine a song I've heard many times over the years, because I did always think of it as about helping someone move on from a bad relationship, but now in spite of giving Martha the perspective, I can't help but find it a little more vague what the good outcome of the song situation is even outside of Doctor Who.
Also, I haven't been as lax at vid making as I seem, I just can't seem to finalize anything and accept that it's good. So I should have updates soon (at least one for 95% sure, more than that though much less sure). Again with the talking to myself essentially (lalala).

Date: 2007-06-27 04:50 am (UTC)I love the clip of Rose kissing the Doctor's helmet with "the women before me must've been hard on you" playing over it. That was such a tender moment between them that shows how loving Rose was, completely the opposite of what Martha seems to think.
The whole vid has some really awesome juxtoposition in this same vein. Like when she says, "You and I will never be like the past." It's like Martha's trying to convince him that she won't hurt him, but the only thing that's coming across is that she can never be what Rose was to him.
For some reason I like the scenes with this line: "That hurt in your eyes, I never put you through." It works on two levels for me. It shows Martha's false idea that Rose brought the Doctor nothing but pain, but also, it has Martha saying that she'd never hurt him like Rose had, and that's true. She can't hurt him the way losing Rose did because he just doesn't feel that strongly about her.
Okay, I think that's enough fangirling for one vid.

Date: 2007-06-27 04:47 pm (UTC)Because here I was just trying to drive home the point that she doesn't get it, doesn't get what the Doctor and Rose were to each other, doesn't get how it ended, doesn't get why he can't let go. She can tell he's hurting but she doesn't understand it's not Rose that did it and that it's the good memories that hurt now.
It's like Martha's trying to convince him that she won't hurt him, but the only thing that's coming across is that she can never be what Rose was to him.
Which was exactly the point, glad that came across. In fact I'd go so far as to say that would make a good summery for the video overall, don't you think?
Thanks for the feedback.

Date: 2007-11-11 05:54 am (UTC)That is a fantastic way of illustrating this video. You did a marvelous at not only the combination of lyrics and clips when it came to Ten noticeably recalling Rose in addition to showing us what those happy moments between Ten/Rose while the lyrics are in the opposite direction.
Favorite bits are at the beginning with Ten's bit about Rose and especially the last bit where Martha talks about there being someone for everyone and Ten's "Her name was Rose" line.
Great job on this Martha video! :D

Date: 2008-02-02 03:57 am (UTC)Fantastic video, btw. I really like the idea behind it (that Martha thinks Rose must have left the Doctor and hurt him, whereas, in reality, they were happy and were torn apart), and you did a great job of showing it. The video flowed very well, and you chose great very fitting clips. And I just love the irony of, "The woman before me must've been hard on you" with all the happy Ten/Rose moments.
Great job. :)
