Day 10: Ship that became canon even though you didn’t expect it to

Hmm, a lot of the examples I might think of tend to be bad ones, of the ‘I did not see that coming and I do not approve’ kind, or the ‘I was really hoping the show wasn’t going to go there,’ style.

I mean, I did not expect Klaus/Caroline to be canon. I’ve always had a...complicated attitude towards the ship and for the life of me I still don’t get *why* it ever became a thing, certainly as fast as it did, or why it continues. I don’t hate it the way a lot of my f-list does (my f-list is largely divided between those who love it and those who hate it), but I would have needed much better development to actually ship it.

I might say I never expected Doctor/Rose to be canon, but that’s not quite true. I went into it expecting the show to ship tease the hell out of it, I just didn’t expect it to be as genuine and heartfelt as it was; and I did buy it pretty quickly. And as ranted about before, by the end I did expect better of this ship, so yeah in a lot of ways I’m not really counting it.

Actually, I think I’ll answer Percy/Annabeth, not that it was...at all surprising they ended up together. They were clearly right for each other pretty early but so were Harry/Hermione, and they basically are Harry/Hermione mark 2 so I was kind of expecting to be disappointed again. Because of that I didn’t let myself give too much thought to the shipping in PJatO, but after Last Olympian actually got them together in the end HoO has been great shippy times. I probably do ship them at least as much for being Harry/Hermione mark 2 as I do for actually being Percy/Annabeth, but for both reasons I’m glad they got it right this time.
