So I finally decided to watch the TVD 100th, and I guess I have a few things to say. A few stray TO comments as well.

TVD 5x11 (#100)

So the ending I’d pretty much spoiled myself for and...I wish I felt the intense excited yet angry about it the way I would have a couple years ago. Because I should be excited for all the opportunities for Katherine and Elena sharing a body, and have my old Elena-loving heart up in arms about having her life coopted by someone else (even if that someone else is Katherine thus providing for all kinds of potential fun). But as is, I’m neither, I’m just meh; I don’t expect this to last that long before they send one of them off into another body, probably another surprise doppelganger. Because as little as the show apparently cares about Elena, the Triangle demands that Elena still be a piece in the story but never given her own voice any more.

I did enjoy a lot of the cameos by old cast members, whether it be Damon messing with Katherine (imo the best part of the episode, but we’ll get back to it) or at the end. In fact I basically didn’t get emotional over Katherine at all, but Vicki and Alaric got me (also I think I may slightly ship Damon/Alaric in a way I never did when Ric was alive because I viewed it as pretty much impossible).

Okay when it comes to Katherine maybe I did get a little emotional over Katherine and Nadia; and Stefan’s way of giving her peace in the end; and maybe just a little at Elena’s scene, but that was only for the echo of Elena’s (long lost) character instead of Kat in that instance. And I did want to sack Damon when he said Kat was to blame for the death of her family; I may hold Kat’s feet to the fire for a lot of things she’s done but that was all Klaus (and probably the rest of the family).

Speaking of the Originals...

-For one, how the hell does this fit into the TO timeline. After the big near apocalypse in the last episode, Klaus and Rebekah left Elijah running things in New Orleans to come and bear witness to Katherine’s death? When Klaus just got the city under his control he goes on vacation? When Klaus gets all pissy about leaving Elijah and Hayley alone he swans off for a visit to Mystic Falls? I take it the witches haven’t started moving in on his power base yet then? And Rebekah went and hauled Tyler out of the basement before they went on this roadtrip? How did that car ride go?

-The only thing I got out of Elijah’s appearance was that it was a great fake out for the audience, since the other two had already shown up it was sort of expected that Elijah might too, it wouldn’t have seemed at all believable if they hadn’t been there. But since we had seen them, I fell for it and was feeling all grumbly for a moment because not only do I dislike that ship but given Elijah’s current situation on TO it would have made no sense. But then it was revealed it was another of Damon’s tricks and I cackled a lot.

-Really Rebekah doesn’t have any reason to come back to Mystic Falls, certainly less than Elijah would in this case. So I guess it’s no surprise that they really didn’t give her anything to do aside from contribute to Matt’s rescue.

-And then there’s Klaus...okay for one, Elijah might be kind of pissy about the fact that Klaus gave up getting back at Katherine for Caroline but last season greeted Elijah asking him to let it go with “Mwahahahaha, no;” but then apparently these days we’re supposed to accept this whole Elijah will forgive Klaus anything idea and just forget the way we were introduced to these characters (although it does make me think I ought to try out some serious Elena/Elijah/Klaus stuff because there’s some serious potential with those dynamics).

-You know, back in s3 I could never make up my mind how I felt about Klaus/Caroline, it never made any sense but they had good chemistry. Through s4 that opinion drifted more towards the ‘why are you pushing this, show? They still have okay chemistry, but you can’t coast on that for this long without actually making some sense.’ And this? I didn’t even think they had that much chemistry right now, and I don’t buy that they have that much of a connection driving this either. Plus I resent that my ship never gets to actually acknowledge their connection when it came about way more naturally.

-After TO by and large letting Klaus off the leash to be Klaus, the good the bad and the ugly, back in with TVD he seemed way more...shallow of characterization. Plus he actually did have a lot more irons in the fire in terms of relationships with TVD characters that were left hanging, so reducing it to just Caroline made it all the more shallow feeling.

Okay, who wants to put bets on me writing some dark Elijah and Kat-in-Elena (Kalena...maybe) stuff? I’m honestly not sure what the odds are at this point, but it’s Elijah and doppelgangers so it seems to fit my interests. But if anyone else wanted to write it I’ll take that (as long as it’s Elena/Elijah tilted instead of Elijah/Kat).

I guess that will do for now, as should surprise no one by this point Original business > TVD plots for me these days.
