two short reactions

So I finally watched last week’s TVD before this one.
TVD 5x07
The fact that I waited an extra week may have something to do with this, but it also basically proves it, I’m not really feeling this season. It’s WAY better than s4, but I can’t find it in me to really care. There are good moments and bad ones, things that I kind of like and things I don’t, but the passion has gone out of it. I can’t even work up a good mad about some things I think should completely piss me off, I’m mostly just shrugging it all off.
The closest I come to caring is Katherine’s story, because it actually IS Katherine’s story (and I *am* glad we got more Katherine and Caroline). The college story was pretty much absent this week, but I find a lot more ability to care about it than the other plots because again, it’s actually a story the characters we care about have to deal with. I might have wanted to know more about Amara ‘s story but I don’t really feel anything about it because the ancient characters were never really characters.
Also, PW never learned how to be a doppelganger. I could never tell Stefan and Silas apart to the point where I thought Stefan was playing with Amara when it was Silas untying her. ND though, she’s got the doppelganger thing down. Although the cinematography in the scenes with the doppelgangers together was really jarring and pretty obviously used to hide the seams in having them all together.
I suspect 5x0 8 is going to deal with what happened to Bonnie, so I’ll save my comments on that until after I’ve watched the next episode...
TVD 5x08
Hmm, I liked that one better since it focused on plots I actually care about but I think it’ll need to be something revisited down the road to see where some of it leads. It feels like a lot of this could be leading some interesting places, but since I don’t know where it’s going at the moment I can’t say for sure that that’s accurate.
I’m not sure there was anything I disliked about the episode, but I also don’t really have a lot to say about it for now. Hopefully down the road I’ll look back on it as important as I want it to be, but we’ll see. I will say that we’re just blowing through plot threads right now which makes me wonder if they only planned out to about half way through the season in case TO doesn’t make it and they have to marry the shows back together. But I really missed TO this week, it ups my passion for the TVD-verse as a whole in a way that TVD itself doesn’t.
