TVD 5x04
This is the first we’ve ever seen if this particular Mystic Falls tradition so it comes off as a long way to go for the episode title.
Lack of Katherine is not so cool. Best rectify that next week.
So I was basically right that Tyler would show up again just as Caroline was starting to move towards other guys. Although it isn’t clear yet if he’s sticking around.
I see your Stefan/Caroline movement show. I don’t know if I like it or not but it’s pretty obviously there.
Except that all of a sudden I didn’t mind Stefan/Elena so much. Elena seemed about 100x better around Stefan than Damon, which is what’s important to me. I don’t approve of a lot of things about the way their past was represented and whitewashed, or the idea that their love is so epic it must survive this, or the obvious putting Stefan’s good behavior on Elena rather than himself, but as far as Elena’s happiness is concerned I didn’t hate it.
The funeral was affective, not quite as much as I think it should have been, but affective enough that I’m not complaining. Except it was hysterical to have Matt standing over there on his own, him and his Traveler friend I guess.
The feathers really got me since that was one of the best Elena-Bonnie scenes in the show. But ultimately I probably got at least as much emotion from the scenes where Jeremy told Damon the truth as I did the funeral.
I wonder where the last scene is leading, it wasn’t where I was expecting it to go so I’m pretty unclear. But I think it could be interesting stuff...assuming they don’t screw it up.
But yeah, needs more Katherine. At the moment my insane speculation ideas tell me Stefan will end up being the person to feed on Katherine and bring the reveal about her being the cure. Although since she already knows that I don’t know that the show will need to have the reveal that way. One fringe advantage of having the Originals off on their own show is that I won’t spend all my time wondering why they don’t set up a sting operation to get Klaus to drink Kat’s blood and turn him human etc. The Mystic Falls team is pretty out of sight out of mind when it comes to these things.
I wish this episode had been better, but it wasn’t terrible I guess.
