100 Drabbles of Summer 2013: post 8

Another kind of random set of drabbles, but that makes it a little less repetitive than that last set.
Main table
Prompt: 4. lush
Fandom, charters/pairings: Babylon 5; Sheridan, minor John/Delenn
Warnings, notes: post series (pre-SiL), fairly obvious spoilers
It took some time to get used to the size and grandeur of the presidential mansion on Minbar. Even the rare times John had been stationed somewhere his living conditions hadn’t been spartan he’d never lived lavishly. And now he was in a virtual palace.
Years later and sometimes he still had trouble believing he was here. Of all people, he was President of the Interstellar Alliance, an Alliance he had helped create, when it seemed like just yesterday he’d been a normal soldier. He still saw himself as a regular guy; it was Delenn that was touched by destiny.
Prompt: 5. work
Fandom, charters/pairings: Iron Man; Pepper, Tony; Pepper/Tony implied
Warnings, notes: spoilers through at least IM2
Most days, in Pepper’s opinion, it was a lot easier to be CEO than trying to get the old CEO to do the job. Tony was brilliant – Pepper was no dummy, but Tony in a class of his own – but he didn’t like being told what to do, especially if it took him out of the lab to do it.
Sure there were days she was reminded she was doing Tony’s job in a lot of people’s eyes, but she could always remind those detractors that she’d been doing much of Tony’s job even when he still had the title.
Prompt: 19. float
Fandom, charters/pairings: Doctor Who/SG-1 crossover world; SG-1; Daniel/Rose referenced
Warnings, notes: set mid seasons SG-1 canon in crossover world
They were floating dead in space, and Daniel was concerned. He felt pretty useless in these situations; he was an archeologist and linguist, when it came to technical problems he had to trust Sam’s skills.
In fact, after a while she’d sent him away to wait with Jack while she worked; she said his worry was really not helping her figure out a way to get them home. He and Jack could worry together, although not exactly about the same thing. They both couldn’t stand being stuck here, but Daniel had Jackie to worry about if it took very long.
Prompt: 41. landscape
Fandom, charters/pairings: Doctor Who; Doctor/Rose, minor TARDIS
Warnings, notes: more DW angst, because it’s a thing I do
Bad Wolf Bay was his place to go when he missed her; when the absence of Rose in his life felt too great to bear, he’d come here and let the grief spill out onto the cold, windy beach. He kept this secret from his companions, even back when he’d still told them about Rose.
He made himself set it aside some time ago, but the TARDIS would still drag him back here every so often (often enough that sometimes he worried about crossing timelines); and although anywhere else he could avoid feeling it, out here he still missed her.
Prompt: 82. Author's Choice
Fandom, charters/pairings: Iron Man/The Avengers; Tony, JARVIS; Tony/Pepper
Warnings, notes: pretty obvious spoilers for The Avengers
Either JARVIS disconnected before Pepper’s voicemail picked up or Tony was out of range, and soon enough all the equipment started shutting down. He’d long since recorded messages for the event of his death, and JARVIS would see that they were delivered; all Tony could do now was wonder if he’d said enough.
They’d wonder what had come over him, when Tony Stark had become willing to make this kind of sacrifice, and whether he’d had second thoughts as it happened. Tony wondered what answers they would choose, because he didn’t have them now. Naturally, he would much prefer surviving.
Prompt: 86. Author's Choice
Fandom, charters/pairings: Iron Man; Tony/Pepper
Warnings, notes: IM3 spoilers
The suits were a part of Tony, he was keying them into his thoughts and commands. Sometimes it was a little much for Pepper, but no harder to handle than other aspects of Tony.
Or it had been until the suit started taking on a life of its own and started crawling into bed with them. It was a part of Tony, it responded to some unspoken desire to be there; and that was too much.
And in a moment of truth, he had that part of himself save her. Because it was part of Tony, so it protected her.
Prompt: 94. Author's Choice
Fandom, charters/pairings: Doctor Who; Ten-Cloen; Doctor/Rose
Warnings, notes: JE spoilers, companion to AC95 below
Cleaning out his pockets, the Doctor found his double had slipped a note into it. Of course he had, they thought much the same.
For both our sakes, don’t love her as I always will – I know you can do that much, you’re incapable of doing less – but as I’ve always known I would with the chance you have. She deserves the best of us, and I must trust that that’s you.
Neither of them could be sure of the right road forward but it was more hopeful parting words than he’d offered in Norway. And Rose deserved to know.
Prompt: 95. Author's Choice
Fandom, charters/pairings: Doctor Who; Ten-Cloen; Doctor/Rose (Donna mentioned)
Warnings, notes: JE spoilers, companion to AC94 above
The Doctor stared at the note his double had left him:
I know how this ends for Donna and me, and I can sense what you intend to do when I depart. Be gentle with Donna is all I’ll say, and I know you will. And on the highly likely chance that Rose rejects your suggestion, I will never blame you for keeping her. She fought hard for me so she deserves the best of you.
They were all gone now; twin, friend, and love. All he had was a broken heart and sad reminder that he’d driven them away.
Prompt: 96. Author's Choice
Fandom, charters/pairings: The Avengers; Steve, Tony, Howard Stark
Warnings, notes: general spoilers for CA and TA, mostly I thought I should right for something besides Tony/Pepper is I was writing TA stuff
Given time, Steve had come to respect Howard but he had never thought the guy would make a good father; with that in mind it was hardly a surprise Tony Stark was kind of a jerk (people of this time would use stronger language it seemed). Still, Howard might have been brilliant and a patriot, but Steve wouldn’t have considered him a hero to any cause; and from what he saw, Tony was the same, except he pretended to be more.
Given time, and the near end of the world, Steve realized he might be able to respect Tony too.
Prompt: 97. Author's Choice
Fandom, charters/pairings: TVD; Elena, slight Elena/Elijah (shippy or friendshippy)
Warnings, notes: Spoilers through TVD s4, slight ones for TO 1x01 implied
Elena knew she had no right to think it, but she had thought...
She had thought Elijah would understand, that one day another letter would just show up for her, forgiving her for what she’d done to him.
She wanted that, but she didn’t have the right to make the first move. His continued silence worried her occasionally, but she left him to it. She’d ripped his heart out and showed it to him; if he couldn’t forgive that, she wouldn’t push him to trust her again.
It was never a big concern for her, but this silence felt wrong.
