TVD and TO reactions

Also, I’m going to be out of town for the next few days for a family thing, so most other reaction posts will probably be on hold, maybe I’ll come back to them and maybe I won’t but I figured I should get these out there since they’re the ones I’ll do most often.
-I think for the foreseeable future Katherine is going to be my favorite character. I’m glad they addressed why she didn’t just find the first vampire around and turn herself back into one, because I was expecting what happened with her and Damon this episode to happen like a week after the s4 finale except that they’d actually go through with it because I would have been fine with the reset button in that case.
-I think it’s pretty obvious that Silas wants Katherine because he assumes her blood now contains the cure. And since it’s out there I assume it’s going to prove true with someone drinking from her in the next couple episodes (I’m learning to think in TVD timing finally), or some other consequence to it but it’ll be shown soon.
-Well, Elena is almost a character in this episode, not necessarily her own character but *a* character.
-Oh TV dorm rooms, I think this may be even worse than Buffy’s dorms as far as generous sizing goes.
-Is Trevino off doing another project? If he is then this is a decent way to put Tyler on a bus for a while; if not I expect him to turn up in a few episodes “surprisingly”, probably just as Carline is starting to notice other guys.
-I now ship Damon/Jeremy 100x more than Damon/Elena, which is to say ‘at all, maybe about 10%’.
-Is...is Matt going to get an actual storyline? I’ve only waited four seasons for that to finally happen, and it probably isn’t going to really happen this time either, it’s going to end up being someone else’s storyline that just happened to start with Matt.
-Dear god did I want to gag over the intro bit. All kinds of ships I don’t like (I normally like Bonnie/Jeremy but not so much like this) all happening at once.
-I support Jeremy not giving a damn about Katherine, I may love Kat (it is a little by default that she’s my current favorite) but I still think she deserves to reap the whirlwind for all the things she’s done, and Jeremy being a little rude to her is the very least of it.
-I am curious what was up with Megan, I was expecting her to be a college replacement for April as the innocent bystander in the drama of the leads but that’s not how it came across. I’m pretty sure flyer guy is behind what’s going on with that part of the story, how Grayson figures in I don’t know yet but...I was going to say I’m interested, but I would be more interested if Elena were her character dealing with this.
-How long can this Silas drama go on? At this point TVD is going to have an actual apocalypse story on its hands but that tends to involve actual consequences and resolution which are things TVD does not like so I don’t know how they’re going to manage this. Any other show I’d be really invested in this storyline at this point, but this is TVD so I expect something stupid to come from it.
DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN I LOVED THIS EPISODE
Elijah
Elijah!
ELIJAH!!!!
I always thought the Elijah scenes in the backdoor pilot felt like scenes from a much smarter episode and now there’s proof. Klaus’s scenes here feel like a reminder of a dumber episode...except for the scenes that were entirely added, those feel like a compromise between the smarter and dumber versions.
I think I can safely say I’m not going to end up shipping Elijah/Hayley because I got a serious “you’re part of the family now” vibe off them rather than a shippy one (not saying the show won’t go there, but I prefer seeing them as family). But it does my heart good to see that SOMEONE actually asked Hayley’s opinion on this.
I still have issues where every time Elijah brings up the “always and forever” stuff I want to add ‘BTW, I added Elena to that list’ because I’m not ready to give up on my precious OTP yet. Also, this totally explains why Elijah didn’t send Elena a replacement letter, so I guess I can’t assume it happened over the summer but it should one day. Rebekah can bring him up to speed when she gets there and *then* I can go back to imagining replacement letters.
I really hope Elijah has a bit more questioning loyalty coming back from this. I always wondered if they were going to address the fact that like a year ago in show-time Elijah tried to kill Klaus but now they’re going to add Klaus greeting Elijah’s offer of nearly unconditional love and support with a dagger to the heart and I feel like the – probably overly pronounced – bond between them here may not be what the show will be about.
And just...dear god, Elijah breaks my heart at least a dozen times this episode, even more than in the backdoor pilot. HOW ARE YOU SO PERFECT ELIJAH? Awesome and suave, badass and defensive, heartbreaking and caring; and just so, so perfect. Elijah my love, you may not have Klaus’s unwavering loyalty, but you mine.
So for this week TO>>>>>>>>TVD, I suspect that will continue for a while.

This felt real to me. Klaus does not forgive, nor forget, so quickly or easily.

Date: 2013-10-05 04:44 am (UTC)BUT, my reactions are not those of a brand new viewer, this was me finally getting an episode truly through the lens of my favorite character and I loved it for that (in part because of how little Klaus had to do probably). Yes it may not be good for the show long term if it can't draw in more viewers than those of us who were always here for Elijah, but right now I'm squeeing.
This felt real to me. Klaus does not forgive, nor forget, so quickly or easily.
I was more complaining about the fact that Elijah's plotting in s2 has never really been addressed, certainly not since Esther reappeared to stop Elijah from leading the family to break up with Klaus (probably woud have been better for them if they'd gone through with it).
The thing is, I do get why Klaus would dagger Elijah, Klaus finds him more than a little unpredictable because Elijah's decisions and values don't mesh with Klaus's (as shown in the s2 plotting right through beating Klaus up this episode). Klaus is in the this war to win back the city and steal the throne, Elijah's here for the family; yes that means he'll support Klaus's goals -as long as he feels that's what's in Klaus's best interests- but Klaus can't control the very real possibility that Elijah has his own ideas for what's best for Klaus.
I can't wait to see where this goes when we actually start moving the plot forward.

Date: 2013-10-04 09:27 pm (UTC)Ooh, yeah. That would be a great twist. If any vampire who drinks from Katherine is cured... How long before they ship Elena back to Mystic Falls?

I thought you might like it. :P
Klaus greeting Elijah’s offer of nearly unconditional love and support with a dagger to the heart and I feel like the – probably overly pronounced – bond between them here may not be what the show will be about.
They spent the entire episode pushing the love of family theme and then brutally undercut it when Klaus daggered Elijah. Brilliant.

Date: 2013-10-05 04:51 am (UTC)Oh I fully expect this college thing to last less than ten episodes, and I do not support that reset button. I do wonder why Jeremy had to stay in Mystic Falls; the Gilberts and Carline could have gotten an apartment near the college and Jeremy gone to the local high school where he wouldn't have faced so many questions about what happened to him and it would have kept them from getting surprise roommates, or surprise inspections where they'd have to do something with the blood bags, or not being able to tell people to just get a soda from the fridge if they're studying there for the same reason (I do like the plot this lead to, but it raises some logic questions about why they would act this way).
But you know me, I'm not exactly going to be shedding any tears if Elena gets turned back human, though there will be teeth-gnashing when the writers inevitably fail to write it to my satisfaction.
I thought you might like it. :P
I can be very easy to please sometimes.
