100 Drabbles of Summer 2013: post 1

jedi_of_urthOkay, so I’ve decided to post this round of drabbles in stages, hopefully to encourage me to get back on the ball and finish this challenge.
Prompt: 2. blueberry
Fandom, charters/pairings: TVD, Matt, past-Matt/Elena
Warnings, notes: Pre-series, no real spoilers, companion to “strawberry” below
Matt ate the blueberries off his Forth of July cake, but he was mildly allergic to strawberries so he pushed them to the side. The mess of red fruit stared back at him, mocking him by remaining on his plate.
At four years old Elena had declared she didn’t like blueberries and would always switch with him halfway through their portions of red, white, and blue cake. But things were different now, even lifelong habits had to change since she broke up with him.
He wondered what she’d do if he walked over and offered to trade plates with her.

Elena could see Matt hanging around with his football friends, he looked happy and Elena was glad he did. Then she looked down at her plate of blueberries that she had, as was custom, saved for him. She didn’t even hate blueberries the way she had as a kid, but things had fit so naturally they’d keep that tradition.
Their friendship had fit so naturally, and that was what she missed now. Could they ever just go back to that?
She could have made the first step by going over and claiming his strawberries like old times, but she didn’t.

Warnings, notes: Spoilers through TSE and implied ones for WoM
He ran, but he hardly felt his feet hit the ground. He dodged debris he barely saw, blind to all but her smile (so much brighter in reality than memory could ever preserve) as she raced towards him with equal abandon. The circumstances of this reunion all but forgotten as the impossible had already been conquered once to bring her back to him.
Blind even to the battle a block away where an even more broken man broke the rules again to let this moment play out the way it should have. This time it would end with them together.

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions, Elena thought to herself. But she found she couldn’t in good conscience leave a kid to be raised by three ancient vampires who didn’t have the first clue about dealing with children.
Klaus glared at her as she picked up Nikky again, while Rebekah rolled her eyes not exactly happy but not overly concerned; Elijah was more inscrutable as he watched her but he was probably just being his usual reserved self. “Are you sure?” he asked.
“I figure we might as well all get in this hand-basket together,” she answered.

Fandom, charters/pairings: Robin Hood, Vasey and Guy
Warnings, notes: Post-s2, some suicidal tendencies
Vasey was seriously considering dunking Gisborne in the ocean, if he didn’t just throw him overboard and leave him there. Guy wasn’t even usefully hateful and vengeful, he was just drunk and morose this time. He needed to snap out of it.
Maybe tomorrow Guy would save Vasey the trouble of drowning him, and do it himself. That was his job after all, to rid Vasey of those who annoyed him or presented no further use to the cause. Really, he was disappointed; he didn’t think Gisborne would need a reminder of his role in matters after all this time.

Warnings, notes: AU obviously where the Gilberts join the Castle family
They wouldn’t start school for a few more days, but Rick had taken Elena and Jeremy to check out the school and register for classes. But then came the inevitable question: “What were you taking back in Mystic Falls?”
Weight training, crossbow hunting, Viking runes, and general paranormal studies would have been closer to the truth than mentioning what classes they had been taking. Jeremy had been doing better while he was in Denver, but that barely counted. Beyond that, they could hardly remember the last time they had made it to class more than once or twice a week.

They’d only agreed to appease Jackie, neither of them felt being married made much difference and the wedding mattered even less; but somehow their wedding turned into the social event of the season.
They primarily joked about it until the day was almost on them, when it all started to seem like too much. Rose was snappish with her mother about how out of hand this affair had gotten but Jackie insisted it was too late to turn back now.
Time was, the Doctor would have run from the entire situation, but now he only would if she did too.

Elijah wouldn’t lie and say he didn’t derive some pleasure from snapping the Salvatores’ necks as he entered the house, and even he was a little disturbed by Elena’s relish at breaking more bones on the way out. It was something he had never expected to see, and couldn’t possibly enjoy.
“Thanks for the jailbreak,” she said as they drove away. “But know that I didn’t trade their idea of rehab for you to police my every move.”
“I won’t be your jailer,” he assured her.
“And I won’t be your Katerina,” she promised him.
He silently thought, “Be Elena.”

Warnings, notes: post-SiL, canon character death discussed
David stood with an honor guard of Rangers for the dedication of his father’s memorial. He thought about how the crystal statue did not remind him enough of the man who had died five years ago; not because the craftsmen hadn’t done their job well, but because frozen carvings could capture the legend much easier than the man.
It wasn’t like anyone would ever forget the legend, generations from now the legend would live on, but the man had been fading from memory even within his lifetime. Legends would never die, while those that knew the man could only remember.

“I could make you turn it on,” he says. He could do it too, he could grab her, force her to meet his eyes and make her feel again. She’s too young to be taking vervain to stop him from compelling her.
It might be the just thing to do (his brothers are dead to and he hasn’t retreated into emotionlessness to cope) it might even be the best thing for her (the real her) to put an end to this before she makes coming back any more difficult.
But they both know he won’t, so the moment slides past.
