Still sort of early fall TV thoughts

There’s a couple shows I haven’t decided on yet; like ‘Brooklyn Nine Nine,’ which is getting good press and sounds like it could be fun but I’ll wait and see what it looks like in a bit. Also, while I still haven’t watched s4 of Glee, I’m morbidly curious what they’ll do with s5. I’m going by IMDB dates for Korra (I would have thought it was Saturday) and memory for Downton’s days (this will be my first time watching DA as it airs); and I guess Community won’t be back this fall, but that would be on the schedule if it was. I’m still not 100% convinced I’ll watch the DW 50th special, but that’s a special thing that wouldn’t really be on the schedule anyway.

wheatear and do a list of hopes for The Originals (and some TVD).
Hopes for The Originals:
-I want Rebekah to get a real storyline. Not just a random ship but an actual character arc and have her own agency in the story. I want her to be the dark horse between her scheming brothers with her own goals and machinations going on.
-For Hayley to be more than the baby-maker, or if she is treated that way for it to be because the show is being dark and she’s textually being pigeon-holed in that role and not just because the writers are ignoring her feelings.
-Better explained reasons why they can’t just kill Marcel. It’s not going to take long for it to become really hard to buy the Originals not cutting out all the red tape and going straight for the kill unless there’s a good reason for them not to.
-A broad view of how this supernatural underworld works in a modern big city. They’re definitely set up to explore that kind of thing, but I want it to really be something they get into. Manipulating the city, the media, the culture to ignore this massive subculture (subcultures) going on in a world that isn’t supposed to know about the existence of any of it.
-Exploring witch and werewolf culture on a broader scale. In Mystic Falls we’re mostly dealing with a specific subset of these worlds (usually one or two examples) with rare windows into the larger world, here there’s a much bigger pool of the non-vampire supernaturals to be explored.
-A reason to take Klaus seriously again. That’s a pretty broad request, but for this show to have any hope of working Klaus needs to step up and...matter. Right now this defanged weeny couldn’t carry an episode much less a series. Show needs to figure out what they want him to be and commit to it for a while.
-Non-beta Elijah. I can respect Elijah’s mastery of soft power and not going for the crown himself, but I don’t want him to be Klaus’s lapdog (or even attack dog) either. Yes his motivations involve Klaus for now, but Elijah needs to be his own agent in all this too. He should have *his* goals and/or rules for how this is going to work, lines that he will not cross or allow others to cross; and not all of them can be about protecting the family in the short term. I want him playing the game not being played by others.
-I can’t decide if I want any of the Originals to have a ship going on. Because I don’t care in Klaus’s case, because I worry about the execution in Rebekah and Elijah’s, and of course because I have a dog in the fight when it comes to Elijah – and yet am torn between wanting to see Elijah/Kat die and not really wanting him to hook up with any of the New Orleans ladies so far (I get the feeling we’re in for some Elijah/Hayley, but I’m kind of coming around to the idea of it as long as it’s one-sided Hayley liking Elijah and him just not seeing her that way. The fact that it’s likely to be something else therefore appeals to me even less that that already mediocre idea) – but I don’t think I’ll have any trouble finding ways to wave my Elena/Elijah flag almost no matter what happens.
-I really want to see the early days of the Mikaelson family, hopefully including Mikael, Kol, Finn, Esther, and for gods’ sake find a way to finally get Tatia in there. It’s ridiculous that they never had Tatia in the family flashbacks on TVD where ND was already part of the cast, now it’ll have to be a special pseudo-crossover but it damn well time she showed up.
-I’m not expecting any other Mikaelsons to be resurrected until at least the end of the season but I won’t stop hoping for it either (and still expect it to be Mikael show up a la Kat in the TVD s1 finale).
A couple for TVD
-For it not to suck as much as last season.
-Really, don’t suck as bad as last season. I know that’s hard, with your best characters either replaced by life model decoys, basically neutralized, or sent off to another show, but if you could find the power to not suck as bad as last season that would be much appreciated.

Ahhh, they should have done this on TVD. I kept wishing for it to happen.
