I can’t decide if I want to review something tonight, but in honor of another 100 drabbles of summer round I thought I might actually post what I got done of last year’s challenge, which was a grand total of 8 drabbles (after I finished in 2011). I’m already further along than that for this year but wouldn’t give high odds of finishing; it’s very much a maybe. But obviously better than last time, even if so far it's pretty TVD heavy this round.

4) coconut
Fandom: Farscape, set during the back to Earth episodes of s4

If John had tried to guess he’d have figured Aeryn would go for hard liquor (and drinking most anyone under the table), Chiana for cocktails (provided she could sample many different kinds throughout the evening), and D’Argo for beer (nothing light, the thick, rich stuff).

Instead it was Aeryn captivated by the foaminess of beer (he ought to warn her it could be bad for the baby, but they’d more or less agreed not to discuss that on Earth), Chi who was doing shots with DK (and sure to win), and D’Argo seemed to quite enjoy drinks mixed in coconuts.

8) sand
Fandom: Star Wars, reads kind of AU

On a hunch, before they left Tantooine Obi-wan gathered a pouch full of sand to carry with him. He had a feeling he wouldn’t be coming back to this planet, but he wasn’t leaving much behind and he wasn’t overly sentimental about such things. Still, he didn’t question the will of the Force when it lead him to such a mild compulsion.

And that hunch did prove quite handy when he found himself face to face with Darth Vader, the Vader part couldn’t handle sand getting in his mechanical parts and the part that was still Anakin just hated sand.

35) salt
Fandom: Doctor Who, general s5 Doctor/Rose angst

He still came here sometimes, when no one was awake to ask why he’d landed on a cold windy beach in Norway. He didn’t want to explain it, and it wasn’t any of their business.

He should have been able to let go, everything had ended well enough, she was happy. That old mantra still played over and over in his mind; all these years now and it had yet to convince him of any part of it.

But he only had to admit that fact to himself out here in the heavy sea air; here he spoke other words.

47) salt water taffy
Fandom: Ashes to Ashes/The Vampire Diaries

“Put this in your gob and shut it,” Hunt commanded.

As she obeyed something about the candy struck Liz as being significant, especially as the sticky sweet tasted sour in her mouth. A stirring of memory, maybe a clue to what had happened to her, yet still unreachable.

“What about that one?” Hunt asked, pointing across the street.

Liz gaped; Damon Salvatore, her sometimes friend, and the vampire that would lead her into the death-trap she’d been in before waking up here.

She’d been eating Halloween candy forty years ago when her parents first told her to beware of vampires.

53) sun
Fandom: TVD, post s3

Nik had a temper, and Rebekah was stubborn. As often as she’d spent a year, decade, or century in a coffin with a dagger in her heart for crossing him she refused to take his lessons to heart, although she got better at predicting his outbursts.

Elijah was far more creative. Crossing him, for example making a liar of him and killing the girl he had decided to love, gave him the chance to prove it. Elijah didn’t expect Rebekah to learn asleep; instead he vervained her, removed her ring, and locked her in a room covered in UV lights.

54) turtle
Fandom: ASOIAF, no real spoilers

At first Tommen wasn’t sure about the turtle his tutor brought in the show him and his siblings. It was funny looking even if didn’t look scary, still Tommen wished it was soft and fluffy instead of covered in a hard shell. He thought Myrcella thought the same thing since she said it wasn’t something to be scared of but didn’t seem to want to touch it either.

“Don’t be such babies,” Joffrey said. Of course Joffrey wasn’t scared, Joffrey wasn’t scared of anything. Instead he picked it up and started banging its shell and poking at its softer sides.

55) wave
Fandom: Robin Hood, late s2

Marian had never been at sea before, so how could she have known how sick it would make her? Especially as she was chained below deck, as if she could escape the Sheriff’s clutches in the middle of the sea.

Until one night Guy came and told her he follow him up to the deck. Under the moon and stars he let her walk freely for the first time, and watched her with suspicion and hunger as he did. Perhaps on land she could yet convince him to help.

But out here she had to vomit into the waves again.

77)
Fandom: Doctor Who/Stargate SG-1 (part of my crossover world)

“I’m moving in with Daniel,” Rose informed her friend, excited but nervous for their reaction.

The guys exchanged a look as they decided how to react. “I’d have though you guys still had too much emotional baggage for that,” Mickey finally observed.

Rose shook her head. Not bad, but Mickey ought to understand better than that, he and Jake hadn’t been free of baggage when they started out and they had nothing on Rose’s parents who Mickey had always supported. Basically, the lesson they all proved was that emotional baggage wasn’t a problem if it came in a matched set.
