So...at least the season is over.
-Show, you know what would have been really brilliant, if Silas *was* one of the Petrova doppelgangers, it could have perfectly explained how Esther mangled the immortality spell to create vampires while using Petrova blood (maybe even how she got the idea in the first place with enough retconning).
-They have so much wiggle room out of Stefan being a Silas doppelganger though that I’m not going to say they won’t realize that at some point and go back to it. Because if Silas can be anyone then why the hell can’t they ditch this and say Silas was just assuming Stefan’s identity.
-Especially since I could guess Silas assumed Stefan’s identity because Elena had tried to give Stefan the cure; once he was Stefan he could probably convince her to do it again.
-You know, if I shipped Elijah/Kat I’d probably think this had worked out for them. By making her human again she’s that much closer to being the Katerina he wanted her to be, and she can always be re-turned into a vampire later on (and probably will anyway).
-Plus it’s going to piss Silas off that the cure is gone, so what’s the next plan?
-Anyway, all during the ‘everyone call Klaus’ section all I could say was “ELENA YOU NEED TO DAMN WELL CALL ELIJAH.” Klaus isn’t picking up but you do have another Original you can talk to who I think you know is hanging out with Klaus. I could probably buy that things are hella awkward between them and she knows just enough what she means to him/how little he cares for Damon to know that asking him to intercede on Damon’s behalf would be awkward as hell at the best of times and this isn’t the best of times.
-Klaus already being out of New Orleans though, does I suppose justify why Elijah didn’t put in an appearance. I wish he would have been there, I kept expecting him to be there to save Elena either from Kol or Kat; Klaus had already made one shocking entrance, why couldn’t Elijah have one too?
-Still, nothing will convince me Elijah didn’t send Klaus with a letter for Elena. I’m already ficcing it.
-Damn it show, why do you give Klaus/Caroline and Matt/Rebekah all the points that *should* be Elena/Elijah.
-That said, while I still don’t buy Matt/Rebekah as more than friends, Klaus/Caroline was...dear god they were actually cute. I still don’t *get* it, and yeah they’re in full Elena/Elijah light (but with added control issues) mode, but I actually kinda sorta liked it.
(-I liked it in the moment, but now I’m feeling more sarcastic and well, Klaus would be someone’s last love because he’d kill them if they ever tried to leave him.)
-How is this verse not going to have massive numbers of crossovers? The Petrova doppelgangers alone are going to need to spend a lot of time interacting with the Originals (on TVD or TO, and since ND is still TVD primarily and the Originals are on The originals it’s a crossover even if it isn’t Elena), since I suspect there will be flashbacks on TO it’s high time we got some Tatia; Katherine...well if they do want to sell this Elijah/Kat thing then her being human ought to give them some good fodder to play with, plus plenty of potential with her and Klaus; and of course *my* precious babies are stuck in limbo and need more time together. Plus Rebekah’s not headed for New Orleans just yet, and this Klaus/Caroline this is still a thing.
-While they’re set up that there could be a time skip, whether there is or not clearly the first arc of next season is going to be undoing stuff that happened here. This is the show that left the white oak stake in play, making it indestructible so it would always be in play, there’s no way the vampire cure is disposed of that easily; I don’t think even they would be stupid enough to kill off their one black regular character (unless KG wanted out of the show); this fake-Stefan plot probably won’t last very long; and there’s just no way they’re ending the Triangle so somehow Elena’s going to end up going back to being torn between the two of them (at least that one...I kind of wish they would; as much as I hate D/E I kind of hate the Triangle more).
-How did no one react when Alaric showed up at the Grill? The guy practically lived there (I approve of the “This is my bar” line) and then he died and I think people must have known about that what with the Gilbert’s living on their own. Actually I also have to question what was up with Alaric, because he was Alaric rather than dark-Alaric, but he also had vampire powers that I thought were part of the package deal for dark-Ric; so does this mean that in time Ric’s real personality would have reasserted itself over dark-Ric if he hadn’t died? That makes me sad.
-In fact there must have been plenty of people hanging around town the people knew were dead? But then, how did all the witches and hybrids sit among the graduates and no one notice? This thing is kind of just weird.
-I wish this episode had focused more on Bonnie saying goodbye, that plot had some chance for big emotional power but nope, had to focus on the damned Triangle.
-I loved the Elena-Jeremy-Alaric scene, but it makes me even angrier that we didn’t get more with Elena and Alaric. I actually think I buy Jeremy’s logic of not wanting to be with Elena as the veil goes down, and we did get enough emotional bits with them that I don’t feel cheated, but Elena and Alaric deserved more (if they weren’t going to give Bonnie the time she deserved).
-But show, if you jip me out of seeing Elena and Jeremy’s scene where she finds out he’s back for good, all the leeway I was going to give you with them in this episode will be gone.
-What the hell is this, Lexi being reasonable and likable and fun? I’m not quite willing to forgive all flashback-Lexi’s (and ghost-Lexi for that matter) douchyness but more-or-less-alive-Lexi didn’t suck.
-Oh Kol, I loved you you freaky psycho bastard. I don’t even have much to say just...I expect you’ll be back eventually.
-Because a) with Silas sticking around and b) with how strongly I suspect Mikael to be in the picture on TO, I’m guessing there are going to be cracks in the veil and we’ll get things slipping through as the writers decide they want them. And while Kol may not be a favorite with this team I think they’ll decide they want him back eventually.
-Overall...it didn’t suck as badly as a lot of this season, that doesn’t make it any good though. Now I’ll go back to writing stuff that goes AU in season 3 (once I work out my Elijah sent Elena a new letter muse) and pretend this whole mess didn’t happen.

Date: 2013-05-18 07:33 pm (UTC)They teased it for about five seconds and I didn't realize how much I wanted it until that moment. Then... rug pulled from under feet, haha.
By making her human again she’s that much closer to being the Katerina he wanted her to be
If that has anything to do with the reasoning for making her human, I will not be happy. Please no.

Frankly they were so bad I'm glad Elena/Elijah isn't getting that treatment.
How did no one react when Alaric showed up at the Grill?
What I want to know is: who owns the Grill? How does this person feel about all the weird crap that happens there? They've had to pay to rebuild the restaurant several times now... it's been on fire, explosions, you name it.

Date: 2013-05-18 08:06 pm (UTC)Me neither. For those few seconds I was like "...THIS TOTALLY WORKS AND I LOVE IT," and then it went away, arggg.
If that has anything to do with the reasoning for making her human, I will not be happy
Me neither, again. Actually after I wrote this I realized the really tragedy here is Klaus can use her to make more hybrids now (especially when it comes to magical mystery baby), and as much as he already hates Kat...well she's going to have to turn herself back into a vampire ASAP, and unlike Elena she'd actually do it. The only reason I can think of her *not* to is if the whole identity crisis element of her for a few episodes (tied in with her thing that I won't actually call a relationship with Elijah) and she wanted to try being human, but human Kat is going to have a lot harder time keeping away from Klaus.
Frankly they were so bad I'm glad Elena/Elijah isn't getting that treatment.,/i>
But the whole extended world tour trip that's my E/E happy place is now going to Matt and Rebekah, and the "come and hang out with us in New Orleans whenever you want" that's a growing happy place for E/E got co-opted by K/C. And just you know, getting screen time; I can't even get canon to give me the replacement letter...not even plot just a moment, or any mention of Elijah.
What I want to know is: who owns the Grill?
This is a valid question that I doubt we;ll ever get an answer to.
plot holes large enough to fit a Buick
Date: 2013-05-24 01:59 am (UTC)Word! My Elejah-lovin' heart is so jealous of Klaroline fans. Klaus (of all frickin' characters) is going to get the girl. He doesn't deserve a house plant...let alone a good woman/good romantic relationship.
"...Klaus would be someone’s last love because he’d kill them if they ever tried to leave him.)"
Exactly! What kind of idiot would ever date this guy? It doesn't surprise me that Caroline would be drawn to him though...she's always struck me as patently insecure. She has great spunk but there have been times when I found her jealousy to be really off putting...especially since it was usually directed towards her friend (Elena).
The only reason that this show can still surprise me is because I never know what plot points they're going to explore...or (more likely)...drop entirely. I don't even think that *they* know. TVD is the very definition of style of substance.
Re: plot holes large enough to fit a Buick
Date: 2013-05-24 03:23 am (UTC)I'm torn between being jealous and laughing at them. Because yes they're getting plenty of screen time and a plenty of hints towards it happening and yet...well they're going to be on separate shows next year and Klaus has his baby mama and replacement blonde in New Orleans so really they're not that much better off than we are. Well, it'd be a hell of a lot easier to vid and such, that's what having actual text rather than primarily subtext will do for you.
It doesn't surprise me that Caroline would be drawn to him though
Sometimes I think we forget how young these kids are (the time span of the show doesn't help). Caroline has always been presented as kind of insecure about herself and her potential, and Klaus is this older guy and bad boy who gives her a kind of validation she doesn't feel like she gets elsewhere. Tyler kind of does provide that, being a reformed bad boy himself (and he gives her the credit for much of that), but Klaus is that to a whole different degree.
Also I have recently been toying with meta about how Caroline's love drama follows pretty much the same path as Elena's and then they judge each other for it while not applying it to themselves. In this Klaus is her 'Damon', a love doomed to fail, and she knows is doomed to fail, but kind of eventually has to get in it to be able to get past it (that's what I'm telling myself about E/D to help me stomach it). This ignores the fact that Damon kind of already is Caroline's 'Damon'; but they don't quite serve the same function either.
And yeah it sucks because that friendship gets ignored and the parallels only exist because the writers keep going with the same tropes, but it's something to ponder during the hiatus.
