You know, I’m not sure I have a lot to say on this episode...
TVD: 4x03
Overall I think I liked this one, at least as much as I have this season so far. But unsurprisingly it’s dragged down by how much I hate the Triangle (and the boys in it in general).
However, I feel more like addressing a few minor points than I do the episode as a phone.
-It’s BS that Matt wouldn’t be wearing vervain. I started to call BS that he didn’t have it in his system but then I had a duh moment that Elena’s been feeding on him so obviously it wasn’t in his blood. But it’s still BS that he doesn’t have it on him at this point in the series.
-That last scene makes me wish I shipped Stefan/Caroline, because it’s a hell of a lot more emotionally satisfying than anything between Stefan and Elena.
-Stefan/Klaus on the other hand continues to do things to me that I don’t think it should.
-I was really hoping Tyler and Haley were just BFFs rather than Tyler having cheated on Caroline. Why can’t this show write people just as friends (aside from poor Matt who has been friend-zoned by everyone he might like)?
-I’ll reserve judgment on Klaus learning about it until we see what he does with that knowledge.
-I also call BS on none of these people being genre savvy enough at this point to want proof that the hunter is dead, at this point they’ve seen that backfire enough on them that they should consider it.
-So...Stefan makes this whole big speech about how Elena’s going to feel guilty for killing so many vampires if she kills Rebekah and all I can think of is “WHY DO NONE OF YOU FEEL GUILTY FOR KILLING FINN AND HIS LINE?” I still have Finn issues.
-On the other hand I pretty much love everything between Elena and Rebekah’s relationship here.
-As a small part of that, I get behind that the implication seems to be that Rebekah couldn’t go hang out with Elijah after she and Klaus family broke up. If the show wants to do this loneliness arc with her then it would be good to TELL us the situation family wide. As is I can’t decide if the show would just rather we pretended Rebekah doesn’t have two other brothers or if it’s the far more in character explanation that Kol’s a shithead that she can’t rely on and what happened to Elena puts a wall between Rebekah and Elijah. Just saying.
-Damon needs to stay away from Elena or even talking about Elena because everytime he’s in the neighborhood of that subject he becomes 100x grosser. Go try and get Meredith to replace Alaric and work on corrupting Jeremy to your wicked schemes and have awkward chemistry with Carol but stay away from Elena you ass.
-BTW why haven’t we gotten any more scenes between Elena and Jeremy? Gods I hate the Triangle because it cuts into what should be much more meaningful relationships.
-Stefan continues to be an emotionally controlling ass to Elena, just in case you thought all my Triangle bitterness was for Damon. Also I’m *so* glad we spent last season developing Stefan’s character and letting him grow and change to figure out who he is and who he wants to be (#sarcasm).
-Matt is my Big Damn Hero of the episode for sicking the hunter on Rebekah. Also I just loved Matt the whole time in general, but that was my fist pump moment for him. Because Rebekah deserves it and the reason her dream fakeout worked so well is because it’s all stuff I can imagine real Matt saying and certainly feeling. Anyway, that’s kind of a BDH moment for two reasons, because it’s unlikely the hunter can kill Rebekah anyway so he’s more likely to get himself taken out so victory for Team MF. Or maybe hunter guy can kill Rebekah and Matt’s just found a way to kill off the woman who tried to kill him and Elena (and succeeded in Elena’s case). Basically Matt turning on Rebekah is great character stuff and a win/win situation for him.
-Hmm, I get the feeling next week’s episode just might be a flashback episode.
-I do love a lot of Elena’s moments this episode, just not the ones involving the love Triangle. I liked her able to have fun with her new skills, and as I said I really liked her scenes with Rebekah and her ones with...oh man I suck at names but what’s her face new girl. I just don’t know that I want to talk about it much.
-In part because...I MAY HAVE BEEN RIGHT. My foundationless, delusional, wishful thinking ramblings about Klaus finding a way to turn Elena human again? Yeah, I may have been on to something. He didn’t go seeking it, but I’m pretty sure that’s what’s implied by his interest in the hunter and renewed interest in Elena. I’m doing a happy dance at this implication; even if, as seems to be happening often, I’m wishing it wasn’t Klaus that ended up on my side concerning Elena’s future.
Hmm, apparently I had a bit more to say than I thought, though still not a lot. Needs more Elijah for me to get fired up again maybe. I’ve always said Elena may be the one closest to my heart, but nothing gets me fannish like Elijah (aside from Elena/Elijah).
(Oh right, um...where was Bonnie this episode? Doesn’t she have history with the rest of them? Also I didn’t mention it last week, but why didn’t she go to the funeral? I may not miss her the way I do Elijah, but she ought to be there even more.)

YES. Ugh. At least throw us a bone. A line. Something.
BTW why haven’t we gotten any more scenes between Elena and Jeremy?
Good point. There are so many conversations they haven't had.
Yeah, I may have been on to something. He didn’t go seeking it, but I’m pretty sure that’s what’s implied by his interest in the hunter and renewed interest in Elena
I got that vibe too. I hope they don't succeed because that would be a convenient out... but it does bring up some interesting possibilities. For instance, if there's a way to turn vampires human, couldn't he also turn Katherine human and use her as a blood bag?

Date: 2012-10-27 05:10 am (UTC)Like I said, I *can* explain why Rebekah feels like she's on the outs with her whole family but it would be better if the show would TELL us about it. It's all the more glaring since the last time we saw Elijah he and Rebekah were all family bonding, if you're going to say that's over could yo do me the courtesy of stating why? Especially since the reason would just about have to be relevant to my shippy interests, and on the off chance it isn't it's still relevant to my Originals interest.
JUST IMAGINE THE DRAMATIC POTENTIAL of Klaus hunting down a way to reverse Elena's vampirism?!?! I mean does she go along with it but giving into Klaus or does she remain a vampire in spite of the fact that she doesn't want it? And even the boys, they want her to be human again but are they willing to see the cost of it happening this way? And that's before you get to the question of it other vampires could have that done, Stefan REALLY hoping so, Caroline wanting it but afraid she'll go back to the way she was if she could be human again, Damon conflicted between his secret about missing being human and that he really doesn't want to go back to it now, the Originals probably desperate to make sure the secret never gets out (with Elijah somewhat conflicted between his desire to help Elena and his desire to protect his family from harm).
I may have given this some though for a story arc I'm considering writing at some point
But mostly, you just know how I'm clinging to hope that this Elena as a vampire thing will either be undone or written well enough that by the end of the season I don't hate it.
