So yesterday the Rockies traded Ubaldo Jimenez. I honestly didn’t think they’d do it even though I knew it was a possibility. I suppose it always is a possibility, but like I said, I didn’t think it would happen.

We’ve watched fascinated for the last few years as Ubaldo’s star kept rising. He became the star that we counted on to steer to Rockies forward. Even when he struggled we kept faith in him, and it seemed rewarded more often than not.

I know he reasons for it, I hope it will work out for all parties, but just now it’s hard not to think that we won’t be seeing Ubaldo’s familiar gentle face in the Rockies’ dugout again. Won’t see him there to mentor the very pitchers that will replace him as he has the recent crop of pitchers. That we won’t see him in Rockies’ purple under the lights of Coors Field.

It might be better that it happened on the road trip because I’m not sure the home crowd could have watched him walk away but it just feels strange knowing he won’t be back. To know that a few days from now he’ll he pitching somewhere else without calling Coors home one last time. Unless somehow, one day, he comes back to us. And if he does, you can bet we’ll welcome him back with open arms.

So goodbye Ubaldo, and good luck. I hope Cleveland is good to you and appreciates all that you have to offer. We’ll miss you in Colorado, and all through the Rockies Nation.

Not a Rockies fan (Minnesota Twins girl here) but I hear you. It always sucks having to see a player you love get traded.

We should totally geek out about baseball sometime, if you don't mind the fact that I am really, really bitter. (c:
