Doctor Who 5x06

I have mixed feelings about this episode. Some of it I quite liked and some of it I wasn’t so fond of. So I’ll give it about a B or B- I think.
I’m pretty much in love with Rory and I’m glad Amy seems to be back to loving him too.
Eleven’s seriousness this episode worked for me too. It wasn’t Ten’s overpowering angst, but it was weighty and knowing the Doctor you can see the wheels turning, he’s just able to handle it better (at least overtly, I like to think he’s keeping it all bottled up inside so one day he’ll just snap like Ten).
Rory’s big speech about the Doctor making people a danger to themselves might be the best way of putting the JE stuff that I’ve heard. I can see that more than JE-Doctor’s woe over corrupting the humans and making them warriors when they are in fact awesome and amazing and doing a better job of saving the world/universe than he was.
Amy was actually cute and fairly useful and smart this episode, so she’s on the liking side of apathy rather than stuck in strict apathy at the moment.
I actually think Eleven’s moral code is more structured than Ten’s (especially by the end) Ten would have been all “I’ll find you another planet whatever, just not here,” where Eleven is “It’s wrong, you did a bad thing so there’s no compromise.” I didn’t say I necessarily agree with Eleven’s strict divides, but at least they seem more defined. He’s actually way more “no second chances” than Ten ever was.
And this episode looked absolutely gorgeous again, so good that we’re back to that. I ought to figure out which directors have done which episodes and see if there’s a relationship between the two or if it’s something else.
I’m not certain the story was well structured, but there was quite a bit to like here.
Hmm, less to say than I had thought I'd have, since it mostly came out positive I guess that's a good thing even though it just means I couldn't find a way to articulate the things I wasn't as fond of. There wasn't much I outright didn't like, just no so in to.
