Reviving a meme:
Pick a fictional character from a fandom I know and I'll answer the following questions to the best of my abilities.
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
(If you feel like naming extra characters I may or may not do them, but I really do like filling out memes like this)

Date: 2009-05-21 05:29 am (UTC)I LOVE ROSE. She is awesome and adorable and amazing (hey alliteration). She's so real and...wonderful. And she is that damn special fandom.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
YES. She's got the big hero's journey going on herself, when she's there she's important to the plots and whether she's there or not she's huge part of the Doctor's character arc.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
I do think that's a couple different questions. Yes, I do relate to her, she's so real and honest and open that not relating to her would be difficult. While we come from different backgrounds a lot of her issues are very...relatable I guess.
And I do connect with her emotionally too, part of that is BP's acting ability and of course RTD's writing because without those two things Rose doesn't exist, but the raw emotion that Rose bring out in the show and then to me is a thing of wonder.
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
Yay for Doctor Who, that answer your question? (also, conmtinues clinging to Rusty's ankles)
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
Doctor/Rose forever and ever. Their love is a thing of beauty and a love story for the ages.
I also ship her with Daniel Jackson in a never going to happen crossover way.
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
She wouldn't LEAVE (sniff)
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
Rose is a pretty friendly person and I think she'd be easy to get along with, but I don't know how much we'd have in common either in fandom or life sense. Being Rose's BFF would be awesome though.
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
Yeah, the love I have for her isn't fading anytime soon I suspect and it's a very large amount of love.
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
I'm cautious about hyping characters, but if asked I would certainly tell someone that I find Rose to be an awesome character.
10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
That's a kind of complicated question, as Rose is one of the dividing issue in DW fandom. In my corner of fandom she's a very popular character, but in fandom at large...split.

Date: 2009-05-21 04:53 pm (UTC)Martha is a long way from my favorite character but these days I don't *dislike* her. I did for a while in s3 I admit, but that was because I felt she was a very underdeveloped character whose potential was lost in less than stellar writing and acting
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
At times but not over all.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
Relate to some of her background and issues? In theory yes, in practice not so much. Grip me emotionally? No, she should have but no.
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
Still Doctor Who, so lots and lots.
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
Um, there's Tom, although he was conspicuously absent in s4, sometimes Jack although no real drive behind that shipping. Oh, nd she should have snogged Shakespeare.
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
Several things. Either better handle or lose her crush on the Doctor (I will not act like it was "love"). Better develop her relationship with her family. Make her not treat the Doctor like a god (even though hindsight makes that arc...a little less annoying). In general make her character arc make more sense.
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
In real life I think Martha and I could be friends, but that could owe to my personal fanon on Martha to try and make her character make more sense, as such that Martha is more relatable to me. It could be frustrating to be friends with her at times, but I think we could be. Even in fandom I think we'd have a lot in common or at least respectfully disagree when we did (although my side that still dislikes Martha thinks she could be an immature 16 year old who posts in caps and twinkly letters).
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
Not by a long shot. She's a long way from being my favorite character on Who, much less in the pantheon of great characters.
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
Neither, I would tell them that Martha isn't *my* favorite character but I wouldn't go into details about why until they'd seen it themselves and I had some idea if we'd agree or debate the subject.
10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
She's far from universally loved, and maybe it's biased of me but I think a lot of people who do say they love her are in the anyone-but-Rose camp. Far as I know she is fairly popular in that camp though.
