Overview

What does one do when one realizes the vast similarities between Dr. Horrible and Robin Hood? Well if that one is me, one decides to make a whole series of vids using the songs from Joss Whedon's web-based musical.

This is an ongoing project and files will be added as I progress through the musical

Characters

Guy of Gisborne = Billy/Dr. Horrible
Robin Hood = Captain Hammer
Marian = Penny
Sheriff Vasey of Nottingham = Bad Horse

And a whole chorus of Merry Men, Black Knights, guards, and peasants.

Yeah, as I was getting into the idea it just got more and more perfect, and it held up when I actually got to the vidding. Even if I am getting a little burned out on (hence the I don't know when I'll get back to it), but I do want to finish.

Hope you like it when you get the chance to watch it, it always nice no know what people are thinking.

The Sheriff as Bad Horse made me giggle like a lunatic, but Robin as Captain Hammer makes me howl with laughter.

I really wish there were more shots of Vasey on horseback, but come on, he's even got the Evil League of Evil going on.

I wish I could remember if Robin=Captain Hammer or Guy=Billy occurred to me first, but Robin totally *is* Captain Hammer. If I had any icon making skills I'd be inclined to make ones to that effect (oh my, Robin's proposal to Marian = "The Hammer is my penis").

So glad to hear you liked it, since I'm kind of stalled on the vidding right now.

That one was fun mostly because I finally got to do Robin as Captain Hammer which amuses me greatly.

We'll see about YouTube (or somewhat more likely iMeem, I have accounts on both but I have a slightly irrational hatred of YouTube), if people particularly want me to I could though.

Any time I update it I post about it on my journal, though I'll probably only post to the comm when there's been substantial progress like I did here. I will also keep in mind that there is someone who'd like YT availability.

It's suck witty music, such a witty show to begin with. It's been a while since I watched it too I guess, but I've had plenty of exposure to the music obviously.

OMG! I just watched Dr Horrible again and thought I have to download these, Youtube be damned. And they are *fantastic*. Please finish the other vids? I love the Bad Horse reprise in particular and the two bits of Guy in "A man's gotta do" are priceless: the "are you kidding?" and "balls!". But those are just my favourites, every bit is so damn appropriate...thank you for sharing these!

I'm taking a bit of a break from these, and only just started getting any vidding muse back, but I still have every intention of finishing them eventually (okay, there are a couple I'm not sure about but we'll see).

Heeeee! This whole idea is pure brilliance! I haven't watched all of what you have done yet, but I just finished the first "Bad Horse Chorus" and just had to comment on the epic hilarity. (And of course I know this is going to break my heart by the end, but I still can't wait to see the rest of it when you get more done.)

I've been much more focused on fanfic recently, but feedback is a good reminder that I really should continue this so thank you. Things do start getting bit more serious about this point in DH (though with still some funny songs), I'm really *not* looking forward to the last couple no matter how fitting they are because it hurts in both sources. But knowing people are still finding and liking this series does encourage me to continue (once the vid muses come back of course).

This is made of WIN! Heh, always great to see another RH/DR H fan who sees just how similar the shows are. "My Freeze Ray" is my fave. "A Man's Gotta Do" is hilarious too! Great editing. Can't wait to see "Slipping."

Once I saw the similarities I couldn't *un*see them, they really are like the same characters (although it won't show up in the vids, s2 Allan=Moist even). The later ones are actually more intimidating to me, partly because they are generally longer and partly because the mutual plots get so...hurty. But one day I'll get there.

But for right now the fic muses have moved in and I'm glad to have them for a while. But knowing people are still looking forward to this series is quite encouraging that I really should get back to them when I can. I'm glad for that and the feedback.

Exactly. Which is part of the attraction of both shows, for me!

So right about Allan=Moist. As soon as Moist walked in, I yelled, "Allan!" Even looks/acts vaguely like him.

Yes, I can see how the enjoyment factor might drop for you in the later ones. I didn't enjoy "that scene" in either show. And if you're going for humor in vids, it's...very hard with some of the later songs.

I've never really liked the way DH ended, they set me up for lulzy fun times and then...it got a ll serious and deathy. Hmm, this sounds like some other how too...

I've got plenty of other vids you could amuse yourself with (for generous definitions of "amuse" which may include making you cry).

I just misread the story Joss was telling, I get that now, but the first half or so of the show is so lulzy that the fairly abrupt shift in tone at the end always jars me out of the storytelling even though I know it happens. (well it's like going from Walkabout/TotN to the RH s2 finale, the change in tone never feels completely smooth)

I have a static link to my master fanvids list constantly on my journal, but I can make it even easier to get to with that link.

Having watched the show a few more times, I have to agree with you. The humor was just so strong.

Good comparison with the RH finale. You don't expect it, so it hits hard. Heck, at least DH made some sense in the finale department.

I suspect it still works better because you've seen DH and can follow the story line of the songs, the fact that it so closely fits with the RH one it the charm though I'm sure. But it happens to be the characters I'm more invested in playing out the DH drama this way. Which is really not making me look forward to the end, no matter how fitting it is.

This is amazing. Its so hilarious all around its hard to pin a favorite point, but I think the "he threw you in the garbage" being paired with Guy shanking Norfolk, is a pretty good high point. Vaizey = Bad Horse = perfect choice.

Maybe if I had started this after we met PJ I would have had him fill that part with Vasey as the sort of go between, who's there for song POV, but it still probably works better this way and I can't say I regret that it stands as is. Vasey does seem to be the leader of the RH Evil League of Evil for a long time so yeah.

You want to know the ironic part, the more often I watch Doctor Horrible the less sympathy I have for Billy, but my Guy sympathy just keeps growing all the time.

But I am glad you liked them and left feedback, it keeps making me feel all happy.
