new and new-to-me

1. I got around to watching the "Kings" pilot tonight and I'm...not sure how I'm feeling about it. I think I will watch at least a couple more episodes and see where it goes but I'm not falling for it right off.
Of course this may or may not have to do with the fact that I have basically zero religious background. I may or may not have known it was biblically based if not for the f-list because about the only part I knew was the David vs. Goliath part.
But assuming I can start getting into it I think it'll be an effective at filling in for BSG after this week.
2. On the advice of certain members of my f-list *cough*
goldy_dollar*cough* I started looking into "How I Met Your Mother" and I finished up season 1.
I like it a lot, wouldn't say I'm all fandomy for it yet but I'm enjoying it. I really like four of the characters and enjoy Barney because he's funny even if I'm not exactly crazy about him and a person. Oh and since this came up from folks talking about Ten and Barney meeting I do agree that that would be kind of awesome.
My shipper side isn't sure what to make of it though. I fully expect to end up heartbroken when Ted and Robin inevitably break up (inevitable for several reasons really) but not to a, say Doctor Who level of woe. Not so much because I'm invested in them as a ship, but I expect it will make them sad and that will make me sad.
I'll check in on that again once I do season 2.

Date: 2009-03-18 05:25 am (UTC)I didn't start feeling fannish about it until the end of S3 and S4, but I did like the earlier seasons a lot.
Ted/Robin isn't exactly the show's most popular pairing, but I didn't really mind it. I also think the break-up is very realistic and honestly handled, so hopefully it won't bring you down too much.

WOULDN'T IT JUST? Barney would half be idealizing Ten and half trying to hook him up with every girl in the bar, and Ten would just be like: "...I haven't talked to Rose in 30 minutes. THIS CLEARLY MUST BE FIXED."

Date: 2009-03-18 09:19 pm (UTC)Obviously we know Ted/Robin won't work out so I'm probably not going to be devastated when they break up, and I can see reasons why it might not work out I admit, but still they...work for me anyway. Now if Lily and Marshall don't hurry up and get back together I may get angry.
Ten and Barney would be such an odd couple but I think Barney would totally man-crush on Ten anyway (although he'd want to give him some advice regarding the BSoD).
