Title: As Things Fall Apart
Author:
jedi_of_urth
Fandom: Babylon 5
Characters/Pairings: John Sheridan/Delenn
Rating: PG
Word Count: 299
Prompt: Something along the lines of ‘Kisses may say things that words cannot’
Summary: John and Delenn have a moment in the calm before the storm.
Disclaimer: B5 is JMS’ baby, I just play with it
Author's Notes/Warnings (fic): LAS fic, spoilers through 4x06 Into the Fire.
Author’s Notes (flashback): Originally written May 2011. I have no memory of how this one did, but it was probably largely ignored. One of these days I need to write more B5 fic and John/Delenn fic at that since me/B5 and J/D are pretty much life longs OTPs.
It was time, the final confrontation was almost upon them. The Shadows were coming, the Vorlons were coming, the First Ones were supposedly coming; and the fleet stood ready to face the coming battle. But now it was the calm before the storm as the humans said, but the sound of that storm was rushing towards them.
They had been on their way back to the bridge when John had stopped, which caused Delenn to turn and wonder at his behavior. “Delenn...” he started, but trailed off. There were so many emotions playing across his face that it was easy to guess that he wasn’t able to put words to all of them. Among her own people that wouldn’t have been considered acceptable but Delenn had grown used to it in human, and loved it as part of John.
She stepped back towards him and he reached out for her hand, feeling for the small engagement ring she now wore there. She tried to smile reassuringly, but she understood all the things he wasn’t quite able to say. That they might not survive this; that something could go wrong and one or both of them could be lost; that they couldn’t go into this without saying, though perhaps not saying, once more how much they loved each other.
So Delenn said it by kissing him. It was a kiss full promises they really couldn’t promise, of fear and hope in equal measure.
“We’ll come through this,” it said as he pulled her close against him.
“I won’t lose you again,” it said as she laced her fingers through the short hair on the back of his neck.
“I love you,” it said, as far the briefest moment they left their larger concerns behind and lived for that love.
