Weighing in

jedi_of_urthI pretty much have expected it since RTD leaving was announced, even more so given that Moffat was taking over and given this season's Moffat eps I can't imagine DT wanting to stick around but wasn't placing any bets that he'd leave either.
So yeah, I'm not surprised he's leaving, what I *am* surprised by is how relieved I find myself feeling, and how this is the first thing making me excited for DW again. Seriously, what few spoilers I've read from the Christmas special are so not making me excited, but this give me...hope for the specials as a whole.
RTD knows he's ending his run of DW and I expected him to want to go out in style, but knowing it's going to be DT's send off too I know he'll want to do his best regarding that too. And knowing Moffat isn't going to get at Ten and I can walk away from the show with a 95% clear conscience with RTD and DT makes me happy.
It might upset me more if I hadn't been most of the way toward walking away from the show under Moffat anyway, but I think it'll feel less like Moffat is shitting over RTD's amazing legacy since it'll all look different anyway. And I won't have DT to feel sorry for when Moffat runs the show into the ground.
