while Elijah felt to me like he was barely hanging on to his control over his emotions.
That's definitely how I intended him to seem. Because he *is* angry with her for what happened to Finn and trying to kill all of them; he loves her but he's still angry. But Klaus killing Jeremy meant he couldn't even *be* angry with her because he can't bring himself to hurt her more when she's already in so much pain.
it made sense that even if an understanding was reached between them, she'd still feel the guilt, like she didn't deserve his kindness
A lot of it comes from not being able to quite realize what's going on from Elijah's side. And she does realize that they didn't exactly resolve a lot of their issues, even if they did reach an understanding about it. But mostly because she hasn't really thought about how she feels about all this just yet, so there's a whole ball of awkward waiting to be dealt with later.
I grew kind of attached to the part about him never wanting to hurt her, because he really doesn't. Even if she, again, is only starting to understand all that he means by that. Hell, I don't think *he* quite knows all that he means yet.
Anyway, thanks for the review and I'm glad you liked it since I believe it was your prompt that started this monster.
