Author’s Notes (flashback): Originally posted March 2011. This one actually went over pretty well, especially with people who liked the joke of Dick being against dancing.

“Family meeting. Family meeting,” Dick yelled as he ran up the stairs, through the living room where Tommy and Harry sat, and into the kitchen where he could pull Sally into the main room for the family meeting. “Family meeting,” he kept yelling even after they were all together and the other men had grudgingly turned off the television.

“Yes Dick, we get it,” Sally finally protested with a gesture for him to move on already.

Dick’s human expression seemed completely panicked, and smart money said it probably had to do with Albright. “Mary wants me to go with her to a disco party tonight,” he rushed through saying. “I don’t even know what a disco is, how am I supposed to go to party for one?”

“Disco?” Tommy said flatly.

“Yes disco, information officer,” the high commander exclaimed, his voice still rising.

Tommy glanced at Harry, “Would you care to take this one?”

“I’d be delighted,” Harry said and pushed himself out of the sunken chair he spent so much of his time in.

“You know about disco? All of you know about this disco thing?” Dick kept babbling.

“Why don’t I know this?” Sally protested.

“Lieutenant it’s not important for you to know. I have a date tonight and I need to know it first.”

“Easy now,” Harry tried to calm their tempers. “It’s easy. It’s just a basic little dance.”

“Oh dear,” Dick said, flailing up his arms and collapsing into Harry’s vacated chair. “How many dances can this planet have? You know I’m really starting to disapprove of the notion of dancing. I order all of you not to dance.” It only took him a beat to register his mistake this time. “After you teach me this disco dance, I mean.”

The rest of the crew look at each other and shrugged, they knew he’d forget about the order within the hour, particularly if he was distracted by whatever it was he saw in Mary Albright. “Right Dick,” Sally said sarcastically as she stood up. “If I’m not allowed to learn this I guess I’ll let Harry teach you all on your own. Whatever he might want to teach you.”

Tommy understood her point, but Dick made no sign of getting it and it was pretty doubtful Harry would understand that Sally wanted them to teach Dick something entirely ridiculous. But Tommy didn’t feel the need to intervene, after all, there wasn’t much that was more ridiculous than disco to begin with. But disco as taught by Harry Solomon was sure to do it one way or another.
