So I think it’s a good time to discuss what I plan to watch this fall and how excited or not I am about the coming seasons.

Returning shows

Agents of SHIELD:
I’m not really very excited for this one; the cast photo depresses me and the promo did nothing to reassure me. I don’t care about Skye (or Daisy as I object to calling her because her awful parents named her that and I want her to claim her identity not theirs); and while Ward as villain has some potential I don’t care partly because I never trust the show has the guts to actually follow that through to its logical conclusions. The Inhumans’ powers are probably going to look cheap, this is why the show avoided powers in the first place. There are potentials for good, but none of them seem to be getting any focus. That said, I’ll probably keep watching on a semi-weekly basis, because I’m Marvel’s bitch and the show hasn’t completely pissed me off yet to walk away.

Arrow:
Now, this I’m excited for. I could stand to rewatch the back half of last season as a refresher course on how we got to this point, but the promos are exciting, there’s lots of things the show can get into that have might be excellent, and I’m still pretty confident in it. I want to see where this goes, but maybe cut down on the flashbacks, I never liked them but even people who did seem to be complaining about them now.

Castle:
I’m not exactly chomping at the bit for this, but I think I’ll be happy when it’s back. It could have been over and I wouldn’t have been sad, but I’m sure they’ll still find stories to tell. I’m still a little weirded out that they seem to be heading towards the future discussed in that one potentially time travel episode, but I of course support the show morphing into some kind of speculative fiction area instead of a cop show. So we’ll see.

Downton Abbey:
It may have actually started in the UK by the time I finish writing this up but I’m surprisingly excited for this show. I’ve got kind of a bad feeling about this season, I don’t really see how it can end any better than bittersweet at this point, and if it does go for a happy ending I’ll end up calling shenanigans. Either way I’m sure I’ll be crying come the final episode and not ready to say goodbye even though I kind of think the show should have ended last season. So yeah, I’m still excited but not sure why.

Jane the Virgin:
I wouldn’t say I’m excited about this, it’s not exactly appointment TV for me, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy it when I watch it, and that’s not bad.

Once Upon a Time
As I always say, why do I keep watching this show? Why is it still appointment TV for me? I don’t even like it but I keep coming back week after week. So I wouldn’t say I’m excited, but I know I’ll be there as soon as it’s back.

Reign
I’m not exactly sure what to expect from this season, if I had to predict I’d say Francis dies at the mid-season break, the rest of the season is Mary vs. the French court leading up to her returning to Scotland in the season finale...if we’re keeping any semblance of history to this show, which is never a great assumption to work from. And while that would be vaguely historically accurate, I’m not sure how it would work in the show; although there are plenty of solid dramatic story possibilities once Mary goes back to Scotland, some of them could have practically been written for CW drama. (Why yes, I did read a basic biography of Mary Queen of Scots over the summer.)

Saving Hope
While no longer a substitute for my Daniel Gillies fix, I’m sticking around for more of this to see where it goes. Maybe not excited, but looking forward to it for now.

The Flash
I’m less excited than I am for Arrow, but that’s to be expected. I’m still pretty optimistic that I’ll enjoy it, so that’s a plus. It’s still pretty much in Arrow’s shadow for me, so I might be more excited for Flash if I wasn’t so hyped up for Arrow.

Semi-returning

Doctor Who:
It already started, and that’s the only reason I’m listing it, because the season premier sounds like it was really good. If only I weren’t so bitter about Moffat and the retcon in the 50th anniversary, I’d probably decide to watch it; but at this point my heels are well dug in on these issues and I don’t see that changing yet.

Galavant:
It’s coming back eventually (probably not until next year, but not knowing I can hope), and I am super excited for that.

Heroes Reborn:
Sort of new, sort of old, all confused feelings. As I wandered away from the show a dozen episodes before it ended I’m not sure what to expect from this round, but I’m pretty willing to give it another chance, and maybe go back and watch the end of Heroes finally.

Mr. Selfridge:
Definitely not back until next year, but I’m hyped for this too. A little anxious that it’ll be like Downton and now that I’m past the initial marathon I’ll never like it quite that much again, but the only way to know is to watch and see.

TVD/TO:
I still never watched last season of either of these shows but I look forward to hearing the ridiculous things that happen and maybe finding a reason to give it another go myself. I still miss my excitement for this verse, but lacking that excitement makes it hard to low-key watch it still.

X-Files:
Not listed on fall shows so probably not until next year but probably an unavoidable watch for me. Even if I don’t approve of some of the choices they seem to be making, I’m sure I’ll have to give it a shot at least.

New Shows (possibly a partial list as I haven’t decided what I’ll give a chance, but these are ones that stand out on first glance at the options)

Jessica Jones:
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Daredevil series, but going with an even more obscure hero (one I know nothing about) might help. Plus David Tennant. I’m not exactly excited, and probably won’t watch right away when it comes out, but it probably won’t take as long to get to as Daredevil did.

The Muppets:
It’s the Muppets, duh.

Supergirl:
I may think DC needs to sort out their TV/movie universes, but that doesn’t mean I’m not looking forward to this one.
