Part of the problem is that I'm actually not disinterested - I still feel like I'm not done with the characters, but the writing on the show is never going to be what I want it to be. I'm actively trying not to watch or read about it and it's a bit like trying to shake an addiction.
I can wander back into fandoms years later and feel like coming home, but I don't really see that happening in this case, at least not fully.
That's the same for me. I'm not currently active in any of my old fandoms, but I still remember and can relate to why I loved Harry Potter or Star Trek or X-Files.
Part of my problem with TVD might be external, though, and not the show itself. TVD was my first fandom where tumblr played a big role and I think the toxicity and negativity there strongly influenced how I saw the show. The same thing started to happen when I was getting into Teen Wolf, so I'm trying to avoid fandom for that show and just enjoy it before it gets ruined for me, too.
