So, I can continue to put up some thoughts on TVD, but this time just some quick ones on the new episode.
TVD 4x01 quick thoughts
-I’m very very meh about this episode It’s a logical continuing of the finale in that the moments are good the over all isn’t.
-This is one of those episodes where I wish I shipped Stefan/Elena because I feel like this episode would have worked for me (more at least) if they worked for me, but since they don’t and I feel like the Triangle really holds both characters back (Damon too, but this is the S/E bullet point) I have to disapprove on principle.
-This episode did absolutely nothing to make me buy Elena’s choice to feed. They clearly wanted it to be a choice as all episode she was shown not giving into instincts, but they did nothing to make it believable that she’d make it. So during that part of the episode I was just going “Nope, don’t buy it.”
-YOU ARE ALL IDIOTS FOR NOT CALLING ELIJAH. No, there’s no reason to think he’d have an answer but damn it if you’re going to explore every possibility I think Elijah should be high on the list of people to ask.
-So...what was the point of TyKlaus if it was going to be over within one episode? This was a plot dead end that the writers used to bring things to a head in the finale but didn’t actually do anything with. This is slightly hypocritical bitching because I’m really glad they didn’t stick with TyKlaus for any length of time but it’s still bad writing.
-So I got Rebekah fighting with one of her brothers, but not the one I wanted to see. Maybe Rebekah’s story for the first part of the season at least is going to be her being on the outs with the rest of the family. Damn it this show needs more Elijah.
-I’m going to retreat into a denial cave where Klaus’s next move is going to be to try and turn Elena human again, because I’m just never going to support his I don’t think. And I think it would be an interesting arc for Elena to team up with Klaus because he offered her what she wanted but won’t admit to the Salvatores that she does. And not at all because I crave Elena-Originals drama like I need air.
-I’m reserving judgment on Bonnie’s story here until I have some idea where it’s going. I really didn’t get it here though. Same goes for whatever’s going on with the Founders’ Council, I don’t get it yet so I’m not sure what to say.
-Oh Matt, my darling Matt, I just want to hug you.
-I mostly just rolled my eyes at Damon this episode. I DON’T CARE, sorry show/Damon, but I really don’t.
-I did kind of expect better from Jeremy. I get that he’s pissed at all things vampire, but I wish we’d seen him tell her he’d support her whatever happened. Or maybe had it seem like he was pushing her away so it would be easier on them both (in theory) when she chose not to turn. But we really got nothing of the kind so I’m feeling a bit disappointed.
-Overall, not as disappointing or angry making as I was afraid of, but not very good either, and the lack of Elijah or even Elijah mentions by Team Elena in all this (Rebekah’s mention was nice but not relevant to the context I’m most interested in) keeps it solidly meh.
