Title: In Place Of
Author: jedi_of_urth
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Characters/Ship: mini-Jack
Rating: PG
Notes/Spoilers: spoilers for the existence of mini-Jack. They don’t have to say it, they know.
Disclaimer: Stargate doesn’t belong to me
Prompt #81: Author's Choice
Neither of them said it, neither of them had to. It was the most obvious thing in the world to them and trying to lie about it would literally have been trying to lie to himself. It wasn’t healthy, but part of why he’d accepted this fate was because of Charlie. Charlie had never had a chance to grow up, be a high school student, be a young man. And now Jack had a chance to do all those things again, at the age his son would have been now.
His second chance was the life Charlie should have lived.
Title: Reset
Author: jedi_of_urth
Fandom: Doctor Who / Stargate SG-1
Characters/Ship: Catherine (OC), various
Rating: PG
Notes/Spoilers: The resolution of “Unending” in headcanon-verse, also being the origin of Catherine Jackson
Disclaimer: Nothing belongs to me
Prompt #82: Author's Choice
Catherine fought back tears as she kissed her family goodbye, even though he dad’s cheeks were wet and Sam kept stalling by running though the instructions again.
She could only stare wide eyed as around everything she had ever known was destroyed, only for time to reverse and reality to reform around her.
She kept it together as she carried out Sam’s instructions over the confusion of younger-Sam.
But when she turned and came face to face with her parents, younger, healthy, and happy, she started to cry. Mum was confused, but she still comforted Catherine as if she knew.
Title: Wrong Even When Right
Author: jedi_of_urth
Fandom: The Vampire Diaries
Characters/Ship: Elena, Damon, Elena/Stefan implied
Rating: G
Notes/Spoilers: post-s2, Damon and Elena looking for ways to save Stefan
Disclaimer: Not mine, probably not yours either
Prompt #83: Author's Choice
“Are you reading Stefan’s diary?” Elena exclaimed, plucking the book from Damon’s hands.
“I was,” he said looking up.
“I thought we agreed not to.”
“Did we?” he asked snidely. “Doesn’t sound like me. Believe it or not I like Stefan being the good brother, makes my life easier.”
Elena continued to glare until he did the eye thing and walked away. She knew he could be right about finding something to help Stefan in his old diaries, but it felt too invasive to her to go looking. She might have changed her mind if Damon hadn’t already decided to.
Title: Different Taste, Same Thought
Author: jedi_of_urth
Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters/Ship: Eleven, Doctor/Rose implied
Rating: G
Notes/Spoilers: Slight-‘Eleventh Hour’ spoilers, chips still make him remember
Disclaimer: I own DVDs and but not the show
Prompt #84: Author's Choice
His sense of taste is different now, but the taste of chips still calls to mind memories of happier days. He doesn’t really like the taste much anymore, but he nibbles on them absently sometimes and almost forgets how much things have changed.
He can’t keep living in his past, he has to go on, and it’s easier if he doesn’t get lost in those kinds of memories. But they’re always there, reminding him of things that were and might have been if not for the choices he wishes he could unmake. He’d probably still like chips in that case.
Title: Waiting to Forget
Author: jedi_of_urth
Fandom: Torchwood (with Doctor Who)
Characters/Ship: Ianto, Jack, Ianto/Lisa, Jack/Rose/Doctor implied
Rating: G
Notes/Spoilers: post-Cyberwoman, Ianto would be okay forgetting
Disclaimer: Clearly they were never mine
Prompt #85: Author's Choice
Any drink Ianto takes he knows might be full of retcon, and he doesn’t really care. He’d be perfectly happy to forget the last couple days, and if it makes him forget the last few months so much the better. Nothing but Lisa had mattered since Canary Wharf anyway.
So far Jack didn’t appear to have retconned him, just drank silently with him. When Ianto was getting too drunk to make much sense of the world or care that he probably wouldn’t remember anything in the morning, Jack told him, “You’re not the only one who lost someone that day.”
Title: Not Enough of Me
Author: jedi_of_urth
Fandom: Doctor Who / Stargate SG-1
Characters/Ship: Rose, Rose/Daniel
Rating: G
Notes/Spoilers: late SG-1 s9 timeframe in headcanon-verse, Rose is pulled between the needs of other and her own
Disclaimer: It’s just fanfic, I own nothing
Prompt #86: Author's Choice
Rose knew why she stuck with her job, the International Committee needed her voice to keep them focused on the big picture at stake rather than the smaller concerns that they preferred to argue about. She was needed here, but she hated it.
She wanted to have more time with her son, she wanted to live with her husband who was needed on the front lines fighting the Ori, which meant he didn’t even live on the same continent as her. She wanted to be out there beside him, facing this threat together as they had faced so many others.
Title: The Lucky Ones
Author: jedi_of_urth
Fandom: Doctor Who / Stargate SG-1
Characters/Ship: Vala, Daniel/Rose, some Vala/Tomin
Rating: PG
Notes/Spoilers: early/mid SG-1 season 10 timframe in crossover world, Vala’s observations
Disclaimer: I’m playing with other people’s toys here
Prompt #87: Author's Choice
The sight of Daniel and Rose made Vala’s stomach clinch. Even as a goa’uld host she had never experienced the kind of love she saw in every small gesture between them. Tomin had come the closest to loving her that way, and if things had been different…
She envied them the love they shared. At first she had just thought she envied Rose for being Daniel’s wife, but it was them together that made her feel like she was missing out. Real love was only something she understood looking at it, feeling it was an alien concept to her heart.
Title: Secret Messages
Author: jedi_of_urth
Fandom: Firefly
Characters/Ship: River, Simon
Rating: G
Notes/Spoilers: pre-series, general spoilers, coded messages between River and Simon
Disclaimer: Can’t see how this would ever be mine
Prompt #88: Author's Choice
When they were little River and Simon had several ways of communicating without their parents knowing. They’d invented several ways of making jokes with their food during dinners where their parents asked them to be quiet and never knew what their children were saying about their friends.
She had to count on him understand her coded writing one more time when she called to him for help. It was harder because he wouldn’t be looking for it, but Simon was smart, and he knew her, he could do it. He was her only hope, and he never let her down.
Title: Human Understanding
Author: jedi_of_urth
Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters/Ship: Harriet Jones, the Doctor referenced
Rating: PG
Notes/Spoilers: Harriet’s thoughts post-TCI
Disclaimer: I’m not even British to claim it as a cultural item of mine
Prompt #89: Author's Choice
If the Doctor could have met her halfway, Harriet would have gladly met him there. Of course she would like to meet the universe with an open hand rather than firepower, but obviously the universe didn’t feel the same.
He wanted to claim he defended the Earth, but she couldn’t count on this man who changed himself so easily. Even if she could always count on him to save the day, people died before he could step in. Skin and bones had both made that clear.
Defending the people required compromise, apparently she knew saw that clearer than he did.
Title: Was it Ever Over?
Author: jedi_of_urth
Fandom: Doctor Who / Stargate SG-1
Characters/Ship: Daniel, SG-1, Torchwooders
Rating: PG
Notes/Spoilers: Headcanon-vere deals with the idea of more cybermen
Disclaimer: These people don’t belong to me
Prompt #90: Author's Choice
Daniel had been on a dig in Egypt during the majority of the Cyberman conflict, and it had never touched his life all that much. Not directly, but just about everyone around him now had played large roles in the fight.
Only Teal’c had less personal reaction during the briefing about the NID using off-word tech to try their hand at cybernetics. Daniel remained fairly calm while Jack railed and blustered, Sam was angry and incredulous, and Hammond was barely restraining his own feelings.
The Torchwood team was just stunned, for them the war had been longer and cost more.
