Title: As Far as the Eye Can See

Prompt #11: blue skies

Catherine Jackson had not seen sky until she was 28 years old. She’d been born in space and trapped in time to grow up in near isolation. Now she stood near the top of Atlantis looking at the blue of the ocean and sky. Everything seemed to stretch on forever, not caged in by the walls she had known her entire life.

The “alien” nature of the place didn’t trouble her, but the expanse of the city and the wide world around it was very different than what she had known. When she used to dream of sights like this.

Prompt #12: lazy

The castle was stirring outside their room. Richard curled close to Kahlan hoping to hold on the a few more quiet moments before they had to face the day. If they tried to wait too long to go and face their days, the duties would come find them.

Sometimes Richard thought it would be nice to be normal people, without all the responsibilities that made up their life together, though he knew it wasn’t that easy. Besides, some of the ruling responsibilities weren’t so bad, he thought as his hand settled over Kahlan’s stomach where their third child was growing.

At five she was determined that she could cross the road without her mother or any adult.

At ten she rode her red bicycle as far as she could, proving that she could go further than any of the boys.

At sixteen she thought it was brave to move in with Jimmy because he was reckless and wild.

At nineteen she ran away with an alien in blue police box to travel in space and time. She almost said no, because she always got lost when she first chose independence, but this time she only felt she had been found.

Prompt #14: mow

As a kid John hated mowing the lawn, it was one of his main chores every summer and he had resented every minute of it.

As he got older he relished it when he would come home on leave, the smell of fresh cut grass and the feel of the sun beating down on him was heaven after weeks or months in space.

He’d always figured that one day he’d retire to his own house with a yard to take care of, but that didn’t seem terribly likely now. Tending to the galaxy took precedence over mowing his own lawn.

Prompt #15: wedding

By the time the wedding actually came Daniel had almost lost track of why it had been so important to him in the first place. They could have exchanged their promises months ago and avoided Jackie Tyler’s lavish wedding plans if he hadn’t talked Rose into going through with the full affair.

But when he saw her walking toward him he remembered why it had been so important to him. To stand in front everyone they loved (and everyone else Jackie had invited) and swear that he would be her partner and love all his life, it mattered to him.

Prompt #16: umbrella

There was an umbrella stand just inside the TARDIS doors, but there were never any umbrellas on hand. So if they landed on a planet where it was raining you either had to brave the elements or go all the way back to the wardrobe to find protection.

The Doctor tended to elect to brave the storms, but Donna had standards. Adventure cold damned well wait a minute as she would much rather face it dry.

It took several times before the Doctor (or if you believed him, the TARDIS) stopped moving her umbrella back to the wardrobe between stops.

Prompt #17: barefoot

A group swim party had seemed a fine idea to Jeff at the time, even if Pierce was there since Troy was hosting it at their place.

Unfortunately it lead to a greater struggle than usual not to sexualize Annie as even a fairly modest bikini didn’t leave a lot to the imagination. He was very determinedly not sexualizing her, so he made himself stare at her feet as much as he could.

“Annie’s got nice feet,” Abed observed, apparently having noticed Jeff’s vision angle that afternoon.

He was also right; like most everything else, Annie did have adorable feet.

He got into her blood like the heat. It was foolish and dangerous, but he stirred her as no man ever had. With Robin she was free of everything that had made her miserable all these years, though it was only in stolen moments until one of them might broach the question if she would rather run away with him.

If she did, maybe she would at last be free of her husband’s shadow. She wanted it to be Robin who laid her demons to rest, but if she had to choose, being free of Thornton mattered more to her.

They could take away her sight, her hearing, her voice. They could bind her hands and rub her with itching powder. She endured every test, but they never believed Arya was dead. She answered that she was no-one whenever they asked, but they never accepted that.

It was silly to think that, she thought; because Arya Stark would have fought their tests long ago. She would have dug up Needle and forced them to give back everything they had taken from her.

But when she growled against her latest test she proved that Arya wasn’t as gone as she claimed.

Prompt #20: adventure

He could feel lost, without the song of the TARDIS in his mind (a mind that could just barely hear it anyway). He could feel terrified of what it would mean to live a mortal life (hopefully a long one but realistically he couldn’t count on that). He could feel guilty that in losing so much of himself he had still won out against the other Doctor (he knew what his fully Time Lord self was going through).

And that was there, but mostly he felt elated. The joy of having Rose at his side on a brand new adventure.
