What this is is playing catch-up on LAS fics again, so here’s another round.

Shows: Robin Hood (BBC 2006)
Story Title: The Handsome Stranger
Character/Relationships: Meg, Meg/Guy
Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoilers for late season 3 including canon character death

At first the music and the dance were fast and free. Meg skipped and spun and laughed among her friends and family as her heart pounded with excitement, everyone and everything moving with wild abandon.

But then she spun and found herself face to face, well face to chest, with the large man in black and the music suddenly slowed to a soft romantic melody. Still the beat of the song was hard and forceful, like the continued pounding of her heart as she faced the handsome stranger. Finally, slowly and silently, he extended a hand to her in a silent question.

“Took you long enough,” she teased without malice as she took his hand. She smiled up at him as he pulled her close though she was met with the serious expression he wore.

He was a cold man, she knew that, and he didn’t often dance she was sure; still his arms were warm around her and she could feel his heated hands through the thin material at the small of her back. He held her close and her heart still pounded, though slower now and she began to feel light headed.

“Kiss me,” she asked him softly, it was what she wanted, but he did not oblige. Instead he positioned them so that he could lift her in his arms. As he picked her up the music swelled while he spun with her cradled in his arms.

But when he set her down again the lights of the party disappeared, all the other people were gone, and she was lying on the cold forest floor.

She was aware of the rocks and dirt beneath her, of her blood soaked dress she wore. Soaked with her own blood she knew; though the pain of her wound was as distant as her imagined dance, her body shutting down. Her handsome stranger remained, but now covered dirt and sweat, his clothes torn and his hair matted.

“Please,” she said softly, and he understood. He kissed her lightly, tentatively as if he was scared he could break her already broken body. Still she thought she could hear the music swell as her dance partner’s lips softly met hers.

And soon she heard no more.

Name: jedi_of_urth
Shows: Ugly Betty
Story Title: For the Fall
Character/Relationships: Betty, Daniel, Betty/Daniel
Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoilers through the end of the series

Betty had had keys to Daniel’s various apartments back in New York, and she had one to his London flat too, but she still wasn’t sure if Daniel had given it to her as a ‘Betty always has keys to my apartment’ thing or an ‘I want my girlfriend to be able to come over whenever she wants’ thing. He said it was the second but it hadn’t been given any more formality than the first.

So she still knocked when she came over and waited for him to shout, “Is that you Betty?”

“Yes,” she called back.

“Just let yourself in,” he replied.

Usually he came and answered the door instead, but when he was in the middle of something he would just tell her to let herself in, and she did. Unusually, Daniel wasn’t in the main room when Betty entered.

Daniel’s place was small, smaller than Betty’s actually, which was why they usually spent time there. Daniel would never have lived in a place this small back in New York, but he was sticking to his resolve to make a new start on his own and his living conditions reflected that. The kitchen, small dining area, and living room were all one medium sized area with only the bedroom and bathroom separated, and both of those doors were closed.

She called out for Daniel again and he called out from the bedroom but when she went to try the door it was locked. “I’ve got a surprise for you,” he added before she’d even asked what was going on. “Go sit on the sofa and close your eyes.”

“Daniel...” she said cautiously.

“Come on, you’ll like it.”

Betty’s heart had leaped up into her throat. She couldn’t help thinking that Daniel could be considering another giant leap in their relationship when she was still getting used to the idea that her best friend and former boss was now her boyfriend.

“Are your eyes closed?” he called.

Betty made herself relax as she sat down and closed her eyes. Maybe it was something more reasonable than the conclusion she had jumped to. “Okay,” she told him as her hands still fidgeted nervously.

She heard his footsteps approach as he came into the main room, but he didn’t come all the way over to where she sat. “Alright, open them.”

It was certainly a surprise and not the type she’d been half dreading. Daniel stood before her dressed in a full costume of the Beast from Beauty and the Beast.

“It’s for your Halloween party,” he explained. “And I got you the Belle costume so we could go as a pair.”

Betty felt giddy. She’d been happy when Daniel said he’d dress up with her for the party, and surprised when he’d said he’d get them their costumes. He didn’t usually dress up for Halloween, so she knew he was doing it entirely for her. And even if she had her suspicions that he’d called Papi of Hilda to be reminded what her favorite movie was she loved that he was doing all this.

“I love you,” she said as she continued laughing, then abruptly stopped. Had she really said that? She hadn’t said that to him before, not like this. “It. I love it,” she covered.

But Daniel quickly removed his head piece and smiled at her though he was obviously surprised. He didn’t push her, but neither did he make it easier for her to take back her slip of the tongue, looking so hopeful and loving. His feelings had been pretty clear ever since he’d shown up in London, having moved across the ocean essentially just to be with her. But since then he’d been waiting for her to decide if she thought they were friends or something more. And she didn’t want to say those words to him until she was sure how she meant them.

And now he was waiting on her some more, to decide if she wanted to take it back. “You,” she finally said shyly. “I love you.”

And she didn’t mean it as a friend.

Story Title: Something So Human
Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoilers through 5x09, including character “death”

Humans are so small in the vast, unforgiving universe, but they fight against that in ways no Time Lord would. Now it was Amy, pounding against the TARDIS doors, screaming out her anguish and demanding that he let her go back to Rory. The Doctor knew it was too late for Rory, but Amy didn’t think she had to accept that.

She reminded him of Rose. Rose who never bowed to the inescapable, who fought against the very walls of creation for what she wanted. He had loved her for that, among so many other things, loved her unstoppable human spirit. To rush in where Time Lords would fear to tread.

He heard Amy’s fists beat against the door and they reminded him of that day at Torchwood. He couldn’t hear Rose’s cries through the Void, but he had felt them. Felt that even as her heart shattered, she wouldn’t give up the fight. But he didn’t react that way to losing her, his heartbreak was quiet and complete, nothing was held together by that human need to fight back.

He didn’t have that fight in him, not the way Amy did, not the way Rose did. Instead he walked away, just as he always did.
