Okay, so back to my watch of DW s5. This time, Time of the Angels, a quick drive by review before I go on to part 2.
That really wasn’t very good. I had kind of a perma-frowny-eye during it. It wasn’t an outright frown, but it definitely wasn’t happy.
Only about two things worked for me in this episode; Eleven’s reaction to River (run away run away), and Amy with the manifesting Angel. The first was pretty hysterical and the second kind of awesome, since I really do want to like Amy and I did there.
Then all my good will to Amy was zapped with Moffat’s “clingy” comment.
So let’s give this one a provisional D+, it may improve once I see the story as a whole.
Random thoughts:
-I kind of ship Amy/River.
-Every time the Doctor turned around let’s-pretend-this-isn’t-Bad-Wolf-Bay I kept making comments like “hey Rose is over THERE, I wish I was THERE, I miss ROSE.”
-You know, Blink was at least scary the first time, this really wasn’t.
-I think I like River a touch more now than I did in her first appearance, but still not very much.
-While I understand Amy shipping Doctor/River I still really hope the show doesn’t.
-Even as I write this I’ve come up with crack-fic notions of “How early is this for you? I bet you’re still wearing Rose’s underwear in your bizarre Gallifreyan mourning ritual.” Which would really be awesome with my River=Jack crack theory.
-Horror movie clichés – the black guy(s) always dies first, followed by baby-face.
-Eleven, you do not have the gravitas to make big speeches like that yet.
-At least the Doctor with a gun bit wasn’t as soul crushing/character destroying as I had pretty much expected it to be.
Okay, so we’ll see if part 2 can redeem this mess.
