RULES: Comment and I'll LJ stalk you to find THREE FANDOMS you apparently love. And then you answer these questions about them!
01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?
gamerchick gave me B5, DW, RH
Babylon 5
1. My mom started watching it before I did and I wandered in one night when she was watching 'A Race Through Dark Places', recognized Chekov (hint, Bester is not even "like* Chekov, best realize that), and so my attention was caught. I barely understood what was going on, but over progressive episodes I fell in love with it and haven't walked away since.
2. I've loved this show since I was 11, I don't think that's going to change any time soon. This is my lifelong TV love.
3. 'Babylon Squared', 'A Race Through Dark Places', 'In the Shadow of Z'ha'dum', 'Long Twilight Struggle', 'The Fall of Night', 'Messages From Earth', 'Severed Dreams', 'War Without End', 'Shadow Danding', 'Z'ha'dum', 'Hour of the Wolf', 'Whatever Happened to Mr. Garibaldi?', 'Falling Towards Apotheosis', 'Between the Darkness and the Light', 'Endgame', 'Fall of Centauri Prime', 'In the Beginning'...probably a longer list than you needed
4. I should really participate more, I've only made one B5 vid, and don't get the chance to talk about it near as much as I'd like because...
5. YES, this show is amazing and not nearly enough people recognize it. Yes the special effects aren't great, particularly by today's standards, but it is a completely amazing realization of storytelling for television. As much as I love Joss and RTD, they are not the top of my TV-PTB pantheon, JMS holds that crown because this truly is a novel for television.
Robin Hood
1. I saw it being talked about by a few trusted people on my f-list and thought I'd see what they were talking about. Also the idea of a Robin Hood series appealed to me because I remember loving the Disney movie as a kid, and it's just an appealing legend anyway. Little did I know how cheesy it was or that I'd end up way more interested in the team castle drama than wacky adventures of RObin and the merry men (and women).
2. II suspect I'll move on, it's a show that's more brain eating than inspiring of utter devotion. When I'm in the Robin Hood zone it's a deep sucking vortex, but it's not really on my mind unless I'm in that zone. So as the likelihood of falling into the zone decreases I'll spend less time in it.
3. 'Brother's in Arms', 'A Thing or Two About Loyalty', 'For England', 'Walkabout', 'Treasure of the Nation', 'Do You Love Me?', 'A Dangerous Deal', and one particular scene in 'Childhood' even if most of it makes me want to murder children. Oh and I suspect 'Witchfinders' if I ever get the chance to listen it it.
4. I little of everything, except graphics because I have no talent for that.
5. Couldn't hurt. I'm not complaining about the size of fandom, but I think a lot of people could appreciate it who don't currently. It involves lots of pretty people regularly being tied to trees, but you have to have a sense of humor that appreciates cracky plots, can't be cheese resistant, and be prepared for the occasional heartbreak.
Doctor Who
1. Saw ads on Sci-fi for Doctor Who. Now as a child I'd always wanted to know more about Doctor Who, but never got to see much of it, so I was willing to give whatever this new thing with the name was a shot. SO anyway I tuned in for the Rose/EotW night and really liked it, by mid season I was completely in love with it, and the rest is history.
2. Well, I've met some very awesome people in this fandom (hugs f-list), and I suspect I'll always be a little in love with the show and willing to listen to these people I trust about the show in the future. But as far as future rabid fandoming for the show...less likely, at least in the short term. But I doubt I'll ever fully walk away from the show, I love it *almost* as much as B5.
3. 'Father's Day', 'Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways', 'The Impossible Planet/The Satan Put', 'Fear Her' (I don't care that it lacks plot, the shippy makes me happy), 'Army of Ghosts/Doomsday''Human Nature/Family of Blood', 'Utopia, 'Turn Left'
4. I cover a decent amount of ground in this fandom too, lots of vids, the occasional fic, lurk in more discussions than I actually participate in, but I do participate.
5. My little corner of Doctor Who fandom is completely awesome and open to more people coming in. In general though, Doctor Who has a huge fanbase so I can't say more people need to be in it (although a broader American audience wouldn't hurt).
