River Song?

Here's the thing, I foresee two options with River and keep any measure of what she's said true, either she's a character we already know or she's a future-companion. The first has some issues with it and the second would annoy me.

Because I don't need Moffat showing another companion love interest when I'm bouncing over the idea of Rose coming back. Also, even if Tennant stays through season 5 (which I suspect isn't the intent) how would he expect to tell the adventures of Ten and River before the Doctor regenerated? And please kindly do not put DT in old age makeup again anytime...ever.

Now as to being someone we already know, I think Jack and Rose are about out only options, both of which have been effected by the Time Vortex and I could see being alive in the 51st century (which, BTW Moffat, unless there's an actual reason it had to be then, there are other centuries). But being either of them has issues, because anyone who has ever seen him with Rose has seen him look younger (which is also a problem with future companion to be honest, unless it's fairly far future [one hopes]).

(Although from the preview, I'd say it could be Jack, "been to the end of the universe" and all)

I can kind of see this being the story where the Doctor finds out Rose is coming back, from River and her little blue book. Future-companion means she's likely to die next episode, Jack couldn't and I don't see even Moffat killing Rose, he likes to not kill characters and no one would ever give him permission to kill future-Rose, I think. Fot that matter I'm pretty sure they wouldn't let him reveal these sorts of things about Rose before RTD did, so that's another reason it wouldn't be Rose.

Oh, but as much as I rolled my eyes at the spoilers speech, it makes the Doctor and Rose at the 2012 Olympics, even more telling. That's spoilers if she'd ever been likely to go home, but he didn't think she'd ever leave, so they could go anywhere.


And while I'm on the subject who will we see be the first person to write River/River (DW/Firefly) femslash?

I found myself wondering, with the overwhelming Suishness, that she could be Benny Summerfield. I believe she was originally from the 51st century, and she was an archeologist, but then, I think the Doctor would more immediately recognize Benny (she was Seven's companion, if you're going to validate the novels).

I do recall your Suish description of Benny, and being from the 51st century...but nah, not going to add her to my list of possibilities. In fact while this idea made sense while watching the ep and when I posted just after, now that I've had some time to think, it makes less sense (except maybe Jack, but there's still a lot of issues there).

Oo, I like that one, she has the knowledge of the library and knows all kinds of stuff about the Doctor since he's scattered through history. For that matter she could be fangirling the Doctor and have read too much Doctor/Rose fic so and wants to be Rose.

For the next few days I might make this my pet theory too.
