Torchwood 2x05 2x06

"Adam"

Well that was...interesting. I'm not 100% sure how to take that. I have an aversion to memory wipe episodes, and reset buttons, and there are some serious plot holes coming from this, but it was pretty good none the less.

So quick thoughts:
-If nothing else, Rhys remembers what's gone on those lost couple days. That should be an interesting conversation when Gwen gets home.

-Ianto has an emo diary, of course he does, he's Ianto.

-While it's interesting to see the Tosh/Owen dynamic flipped around, I really wish it had had some actual effect.

-Along those lines, I quite liked the Jack/Ianto parts of the episode that got wiped out, the end was less effective. Reset buttons suck.

-They very carefully avoided give Jack's real name; these things annoy me. Once Gray (or is it Grey?) actually shows up (which one must suspect he will) I wonder how they'll manage to avoid that, it was weird enough with John, and they were both using aliases.

-I fail to see how Owen no longer being such a cynic leads to Owen wearing glasses. And I have issues with the Tosh has a boyfriend therefore Tosh has confidence angle.

-Ahhh, Adam was in the Void, and he came out of it. I count any Void mention as a Rose shout out, and if things can come out of the Void via the rift, Rose can't be too far behind. Jack, remember Rose.

-Reset buttons still suck.

-Shut up Martha, now I actually have to watch you.

"Reset"

And then there was...BWAAAHHHHH???

That was...unexpected to say the least. Well, I guess that sort of makes up for the giant reset button in Adam, but still...there are degrees I'm sure.

Quick thoughts:
-Yep, they're Torchwood, can you read the side of the car?

-Hi Bradford, you know when you start playing American Actor Bingo on British shows, it's kind of weird.

-I found Martha substantially less annoying in the show than my gut reaction to her in the previews lead me to think I'd find her. Seriously though, how much after LotTL is this set? Because Martha has had time to finish school, get into UNIT, be into this case, and Jack to know about it. If we continue to assume that Jack's return in KKBB was pretty close to LotTL, that means months have passed in the first six episodes.

-Also, if Martha's immune system is out of whack just from traveling around in time and space, one of these days they owe us some idea what looking into the freaking Time Vortex did to Rose.

-Alright Torchwood, you finally got me to a point where I think you're making too many in jokes to Doctor Who, usually I don't think there's enough but this was over the top (especially since they're all so...useless, they don't actually tell us about the characters, just callbacks for the sake of callbacks).

Why exactly did Jack call Martha in exactly? The preview implication that they needed someone with access so Jack brought Martha in made way more sense than that he apparently randomly decided that bring her in on this case.

-I was glad for the update on Martha's family, my random desire for Jack/Tish during the year that wasn't feels stocked.

-And the end, like I said, BWAH? We'll leave it at that until next week. Will the Life Knife and the Risen Mitten make another appearance? Will the fact that Owen got bit by a Wevill have anything to do with it? Will they pull something out of thin air? Or will Torchwood do the rarely considered on television thing and have Owen actually stay dead (I doubt it)? I don't want Owen to stay dead, I just think I'd gain a lot of respect for the show if he did, even if I was angry.

And I have issues with the Tosh has a boyfriend therefore Tosh has confidence angle.
I never saw it that way. She was showing confidence before Adam manipulated her. And I consider the sex between them near rape, and I don't think we were supposed to agree with Tosh's desperate pleas to keep Adam alive.

Her desire to have someone in that way seems to be portrayed as a weakness in this episode.

No, I agree with you. I think they're really overplaying that part of her character. She's gotten two episodes so far, both of which revolved around her love life. She was ten times as confident and outgoing once she had a boyfriend. I don't like it.

Ahh okay yeah I get that.

I thought Jack brought Martha in because she/UNIT were investigating the deaths prior to TW's involvement.

And I totally squeed at the void reference! :D I am a wee bit sad, sometimes.
