Challenge #2

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I don’t know that I have a lot of fresh goals for this year. Especially since making a list here is going to be very fandom oriented. But putting some goals into words helped me accomplish a couple of things last year, so maybe it will have some benefit.


Reviews
-Maintain a consistent posting schedule on tori_reviews; sticking to the three day a week model that’s mostly worked this year, but maybe going to four a week if I get into a better groove.
-Review something other than Star Wars and Marvel properties, I felt I was in a bit of a rut last year. I’m thinking of doing Buffy but I can’t seem to get a move on it just yet.

Writing
-Post at least…five fics. These can be remastered old fics or new ones, but try and post more.
-Maybe get a second person as a beta? I like my current beta just fine, but she’s really busy so I have a hard time getting any inertia going once fics are at the editing stage.
-Finish this Agents of SHIELD fix-it fic that I’ve been going around in circles on for the past year. wipbigbang would be an excellent time for it, but I’ll need to be further along than I am before that starts.
-Officially, I upped by getyourwordsout goal from 200k to 300k; but as I actually wrote about 420k last year, my real goal is closer to 500k. As long as I’m somewhere between 300k and 500k I’ll probably feel okay with myself, 500k is a stretch goal.

Other
-Okay maybe this year I’ll do my ASOIAF reread that I didn’t get very far on this year.
-Actually read a few books. I read so few books and so many fanfics last year, maybe balance it a little more.
-More knitting. Wouldn’t hurt to use up some of the awkward yarn I have and make things to donate to charity next Christmas. That seems more like a real life goal.

500k! hooooly cow. i couldn't do that in years of trying. (i squeaked 88k this year.) good luck!

what constitutes awkward yarn?

I count things toward word count that are borderline whether they should be counted (all my TV reviews, loose outlining, notes for other projects). I considered that instead of picking a higher goal this year I could just be more strict about what counts; but that didn't seem like that much fun.

Awkward yarn consists of really low end yarn that I have an abundance of but isn't great to wear (makes decent scarves as it's not usually against skin, but is debatable for other things) and stuff that I picked up for specific projects and now have an excess that ought to be used up.

Those are great goals, and I'm amazed at 500k. That's very impressive.

Getting a good beta is such a great thing, so finding a second seems like a sensible idea. If you go for that I hope you find someone.

I'm pretty liberal with what I count as words towards my goals. If I was setting specific fic goals I would be aiming a lot lower.

I kind of lucked into my current beta and I'm not sure how to go about finding another. The beta connection community seems more active on tumblr but I don't do tumblr and don't really want to either.
