TVD 4x06 quick thoghts
I don’t feel like doing an in depth thing this week either, but I guess some quick thoughts may happen.
TVD 4x06 reaction post
1) I really don’t like the Salvatores. Not that this is news, but it needs to be said that they both grate on me a lot.
2) This week I’m really really close to shipping Elena/Klaus (at least in a very dark twisted way and in the absence of Elijah).
3) Speaking of, WHY ISN’T ELIJAH AROUND?
4) Hey the show finally acknowledged that other hybrids were just as much victims as Tyler, I’ve been wanting that since this all started.
5) Hey, we may finally be getting some movement on the big bad of the season, assuming that whole story time thing wasn’t just to fill time (and if this show needed to fill time they would have done it with more eye rolling scenes for the Triangle).
6) While I’ll give them that Elena would be feeling less suicidal once the haunting thing was over, I resent that we aren’t seeing the issues still affecting her afterward.
7) You know, the Klaus/Caroline scenes were working for me okay, but the idea of them actually going on a coerced date doesn’t work for me. Especially since I worry they’ll try and make it more mutual afterward while here it was still clearly the dynamic they’ve had for a while.
8) I just wanted it to be ANYONE but a Salvatore that helped Elena hold on long enough to get through this thing. That may have been part of why I loved the scenes with her and Klaus so much; yes they had nice intense chemistry too, but it also wasn’t a Salvatore working with her.
9) I really do love Matt, and he seems to be a lot more plot relevant this season so I’m loving that (even if I’m hating so much else).
10) Make it an even ten and say again what I kept saying all episode (clearly I liked last week’s a lot since I didn’t spend nearly as much time repeating it at the screen): WHERE IS MY ELIJAH?

Ahaha. It's better if you add Elijah though, right?
WHY ISN’T ELIJAH AROUND?
The eternal unanswered question.
While I’ll give them that Elena would be feeling less suicidal once the haunting thing was over, I resent that we aren’t seeing the issues still affecting her afterward.
Yeah, that felt awkward to me even with the whole 'bad dream' explanation.

I don't know. I'm not sure dark and twisted Elena/Klaus feelings are entirely compatible with my OMG SO PERFECT Elena/Elijah feelings.
However I'm starting to entertain a fanwank reason for Elijah not being included (that the show will probably completely joss, hopefully by Elijah showing up and giving real reason), that I can see Elijah having some pretty set ideas about the idea of a cure for vampires (pro or anti, I'm not sure) that either way would clash with Klaus's goal (even though, seriously Klaus, you want someone who cares about Elena's humanity that can actually do some good? Call your brother man).
Because seriously, where was Elijah that it was faster for Klaus to fly back to MF than call Elijah and go "Yeah Elena just killed one of the Five, you might want to go help keep her from killing herself" unless there's an actual reason for not telling him about the reappearance of the Five. You have your Damon should be dead count, I have my count of how many times people should have called Elijah for help (it's pretty high already this season).
But yeah, couldn't we have had some actual follow up on Elena's actual story this episode rather than the LOOOOOONG scenes with her and the Salvatores? Because the rest of the episode made it pretty clear that that wasn't just the haunting saying those things, those are things Elena actually feels, and on a pretty high level I'd say. If you're going to brush it under the run could we at least have a trite resolution to it within the episode? (It wouldn't be much better but at least it would be different.)

It seems clear to me that Klaus is fine with Elijah not being there and would rather not involve him. He might even prefer that Elijah thinks he's dead.

As always, the romance takes priority over Elena's trauma. But at least we had the 40 minutes before that.

We don't know if Klaus is letting Elijah (and maybe Kol) think he's still dead, that would be a pretty dick move but I wouldn't put it past Klaus; though again, Rebekah ought to have let them know when she...apparently wasn't calling them for someone to talk to after things fell apart with Klaus.
Oh Elena, your story is so much better than the Triangle. Why oh why can't the writers tell that story instead?
