I want to talk about how my ships and concept of shipping varies with fandom, so name me a fandom and I'll discuss my what I ship and what shipping means to me in that fandom.

How about Doctor Who?

And I'm stealing this as a meme. XD

Doctor Who is one of those shows where the ship is a huge part of the show for me. Sure when I watch the occasional bit of Classic Who I don't connect everything to why the Doctor fell in love with Rose later on, but it's been known to happen.

Shipping on Doctor Who to me is in everything that happens in New Who. It may not be the only reason why characters act the way they do but it's always there.

Doctor/Rose is my OTP of the show, OTP in many many senses. I can not ship the Doctor with anyone but Rose; no matter what happens she is the love of his life, it took him 900 years to find her, he's not going to find someone else he loves like that again. I have only a slight bit more flexibility with Rose in that I think if it had been impossible for her to get back after Doomsday given the right person and circumstances she might have fallen in love again, unlikely but possible, and not what happened in canon.

Other ships on the show I support, and may have temporary obsessions with (Master/Lucy, Jack/Donna, etc.) but nothing touches Doctor/Rose in being my OTP by a long shot. Their love story is practically what the show is about.
