Wildcard reactions
Yay Astros, beat those damn Yankees. And that was pretty decisive, good to watch and the result I wanted.
The NL game was a little more surprising, the Cubs were a lot more dominant than I expected in it. But I was instinctively rooting for them right from the start (plus it was my old pretend baseball boyfriend Dexter, who will always be a Rockie in my heart), so yay again.
DS predictions/hopes
First thing I wish is that I was going to be able to watch the AL games, but we don’t get FS1 or MLB Network, damn you Fox.
Texas Rangers v. Toronto Blue Jays
I have nothing concrete against either of these teams although I wouldn’t really root for either of them most of the time, they both set off my ‘damn big money team’ radar a little bit, not enough to really dislike them but enough to not be very into them. That said, I can root for Tulo so I guess by extension I’m a little bit rooting for the Jays. I would normally say I'm rooting for a full series, but since I can’t watch it I don’t really care. And being AL I only have a small idea how this match up could go, but record suggests Jays, so I will hardly be surprised if it goes that way.
Houston Astros v. KC Royals
I’m a little torn here, because if I have an AL team it’s the Royals, but I am a little drawn to the Astros after they’ve had so much trouble the last decade plus; although KC is just coming out of that themselves so it’s not exactly a David and Goliath situation on that front. I suspect at heart I’m rooting KC, and record-wise I expect them to win, but I hope it’s some good games...at least intellectually, since if they’re good games and I can’t watch them I’ll be more annoyed than ever.
Chicago Cubs v. St. Louis Cardinals
I’m really conflicted here, because long standing attitudes say that I am a post season Cards fan (and a little bit regular season, but it mostly shows up in the playoffs), but in this case I do want to see the Cubs succeed. And before the Wildcard game I was saying it only slightly mattered as whoever won was going to go run into the Cards and I was pretty sure the Cards would win against either, but the Cubs looked really damn good in that game. Since I can only watch NL games, I’m definitely rooting for more of them so five game series please.
NY Mets v. LA Dodgers
The Dodgers are kind of the big bad out here in the NL West so I’m habitually rooting against them (funny I don’t have the same feeling when it’s SF, but they ping less bad with me, or maybe because my Rockies usually play better against SF than they do LA). Record-wise these two seem closely matched, and I’m expecting some serious pitching duals in these games; but I don’t think I’ll be surprised whichever team comes out on top. Real insightful I am.
