The Originals 1x12 reaction...kind of
So here’s the thing, my B5 rewatch has continued but as expected a reached a point where I no longer felt like doing reviews and just wanted to watch the show. And I think being back in that world has sapped a lot of my energy for the TVD/TO verse. I should have thoughts and feelings about this episode but my reaction is kind of an uninvested meh. Not even a passionate meh like I sometimes get when things just don’t connect with me.
Maybe when TVD rolls around I’ll feel like talking about both shows.
Okay maybe I want to comment on ONE thing (you probably know which thing *I* need to discuss):
I kind of have to assume Elijah is lying through his teeth about only falling in love twice in 1000 years, unless they’re now saying that his affection for Katherine and Elena is all because of some debt to loving Tatia (except god forbid we actually mention any of them). Because if the show is pretending the other one he’s counting is Katherine but not Tatia I call massive levels of bullshit (especially that he “honored” it) because at most he had a chance at loving her but never really came around to doing so. And even I’m not so ship blind to assume his one other love is Elena, especially at this point.
(Though as always, I have to remind the show that this is the guy who has only ever looked at Elena lovingly after she contributed to the deaths of two of his brothers and has let her and every member of her inner circle off without even a warning on that front. A master of forgiveness by Klaus’s estimation, yet again contradicted by his actual actions when it comes to forgiveness of just about anyone else.)
So yeah, Elijah’s either really pathetic or lying through his teeth.
For the record, I’ve long held to the opinion that Elijah falls in love (real love not just passing romantical feelings) once a century or so; and this is from someone who honestly believes Rose is the one true love of the Doctor’s existence, so I have no problem putting OTP status above common logic that immortals shouldn’t be expected to act that way.
Okay two things: how long until the show brings Esther back now? Because this seems like pretty good set up. (Granted of the dead Original family members she was the one I least wanted to see, but I want more of the family drama damn it.)
