Arrow up to date thoughts

So I finally got caught up on Arrow, I had thought it was a 22 episode season and I was finishing it off but it turns out it’s 23 eps so here’s my thoughts going into the finale.

-I still dislike Ollie/Laurel. I think it hurts both of them as characters and drags down the story. On the off chance the finale has Laurel let in on the secret there may be some hope for this progressing. In the far more probable plot that Oliver returns to his focus on being Green Arrow and his no relationship stance and we have to put up with another season of this dance I’m going to be even more angry with it.

-By extension, Tommy is being set up for a turn to supervillainy over this, and I care a hell of a lot more about his feelings than I do either of those two numskulls, I just don’t buy the seemingly inevitable turn to the dark side over it.

-John Barrowman is still a hoot to watch. I actually do have some times now where he’s Malcolm but sometimes he’s still just Barrowmaning it up.

-I keep waiting for them to actually do something with Roy and maybe they still can but at this point the finale would have to be huge to deal with all the plot threads they have going on, to say nothing about actually resolving any of them.

-I came to the conclusion a couple episodes ago that maybe this show would be better if they had made it more about Starling City and less about Oliver . Because really, everyone on this show (with the debatable exception of Laurel) is way more interesting than Oliver (and Laurel would be if she would get away from Oliver).

-I still want Arrow/Revenge crossovers. And it seems all the more fitting the longer this show goes on (all these plots to destroy the world’s economy and profit from rebuilding after destruction would fit in so well with Revenge plots). Also, Nolan/Felicity, get on that internet.

-Actually this show would be better if it was just more like Revenge. Revenge may have had its issues this season (and some last season), but I think Arrow would be better if it were less like it is and more like something else.

-I hope they ditch the island flashbacks next year. There’s still a lot that will need to be explained at some point but I really don’t care for the flashbacks. Obviously they need to finish out this arc in the finale before they can let it go, but I want that to be what happens.

-Is it just me or have the last couple eps been pushing an Oliver/Felicity angle, at least from her side? Now, they have way better chemistry and connection than Ollie and Laurel have but I’m not sure how I feel about the way it’s being set up. (Plus I was toying with Diggle/Felicity for a few eps before it started heading this way.)

-Ollie/Yao Fe’s daughter whose name escapes me. Yeah Ollie has better chemistry with *everyone* than he does Laurel, but Yao Fe’s daughter is the best thing to happen to the flashbacks and those two actually do have pretty good chemistry. I wonder if the finale will tell us where she is now or if they’ll leave that open.

-I predict a sophomore slump for this show, which won’t be good for it as I only kinda sorta like it as is. I’d like to be wrong on that, think they’ll address some of the things that I feel aren’t working well, but I doubt I’ll be chomping at the bit for it to come back next fall.

(-on a ‘yeah you think that’ note, does anyone know when Saving Hope comes back? I may only kinda sorta like that show but apparently I need more ‘Shanks and Gillies are so damn pretty I’ll watch you’re silly hospital show’ time.)
