TVD reaction post

So...more TVD.

So Elena and Rebekah are awesome, and I think this now means I ship Elena with all the surviving Originals. I’m not sure to what degree I ship Elena/Rebekah yet (as opposed to my perfect forever and ever Elena/Elijah feelings (at least in a world where s4 doesn’t exist) and desire for dirty bad wrong hate sex Elena/Klaus) but I’m getting into it. This was easily the best part of the episode for me.

Secondarily we did get some Klaus/Stefan, although it was pretty tame since the episode was far more interested in Klaus/Caroline which was just...weird, and we’ll come back to it.

Bonnie’s plot...I’m mixed on. There’s still a chance for Bonnie to bust out and burn this mess to the ground, but I was hoping she was lying about not remembering anything but the longer that scene went on the less I could believe that. It almost explains he sudden shift in attitude while they were still on the island which I always took issue with, if somewhere in her first conversation with Silas around the time when he called up images of Jeremy Silas gained control over Bonnie’s mind and her memory of the events leading up to that it spotty now, but she hasn’t read as mind controlled since then, even this episode. So...yeah, mixed.

I do wonder if we’ll get some actual character development for Caroline from what happened this episode. I have no trouble thinking she’d take the actions she took to save Bonnie’s life, but I’d also like there to be some actual development from/consequences for it.

As far as Klaus/Caroline goes...it couldn’t seem to pick a flavor this time around, and none of the options were all that good of tastes. The scene of them in the woods where it almost seemed like things were going a bit met textual with the appeal of the bad boy concept and Caroline rejecting it on the basis that “yeah you’re still terrible (but I may be talking about Damon anyway)” had potential but didn’t feel quite finished and particularly unconnected from their other scenes. And the end...I get that he’s upset about completing the triangle and all, but they really felt like they were in different scenes there.

As usual the Salvatores contributed nothing to the episode aside from providing props for other people to act off of. Stefan basically did nothing except get the ball rolling all episode, and naturally they cut out before the last scene got to the impactful bits. And outside of his role in the Elena and Rebekah fun hour Damon’s point was to have really dumb flashbacks that I think were trying to connect the dots between where we’ve seen Damon and Lexi in flashbacks and where they were in s1, and doing it badly. Yeah, I want to turn Elena human again too (yes I always wanted that, but at this point it's more 'I want real-Elena back and will happily throw the baby vamp out with the bathwater to get it'), but I laugh at your pain Damon.

Now, can we have Jeremy, Kol, Finn, Mikael, Alaric, Grams, Anna, Pearl, Rose, and maybe Vicky back (I’m probably unintentionally leaving some people off, but am intentionally leaving Lexi and her constantly retconned backstory and personality off thank you).
