She should be afraid of him as he’s pointing a gun at her over a grave he may have caused, but she’s not afraid. It’s probably shock, she’s still quite ready to believe what’s in front of her eyes.

Except she is looking with her eyes, and there’s something in his as shocked and scared as she feels. He’s shot her before on accident, and he’s a killer, but she doesn’t think he’s even fully aware of the gun gripped in his hand but almost hovering between them.

She can’t quite believe that, even now, she loves and trusts him.

“I can’t,” Rose said with a sigh. “And I’m not just saying that, I just don’t know.”

“That would be easier to believe if strange stuff didn’t keep happening with you. Or your story made any sort of sense.”

Rose sighed, this was hardly the first time he’d called her on that. But she really didn’t feel like explaining her life story right now.

Dating Betty was different than dating the kind of girls Daniel used to go out with. Until Molly it had been more about being seen at the right restaurants by the right people and mostly a pretense to sex.

Molly had been more like Betty, but Betty was Betty. She’d lived with one foot in his world long enough to know she wasn’t impressed by it. Good food and good company were her requirements for a good date, and he preferred that too these days.

And the sex part…somewhere along the line he’d become too much a gentleman to say.

Robert was good at giving pre-battle speeches to rally the men, Ned wasn’t. But Robert was miles and miles away and it was Ned’s battle to lead the attack on King’s Landing. The troops ranged from tired and battle weary, to eager and anxious, for battle or the end of the war.

Ned hoped it ended soon. Things were going to be difficult enough after the war as they stood now, too much more destruction and it might be impossible to bring the kingdom together again.

That didn’t make for a very good speech though. That was why Robert lead.

Jackie worried about little things going wrong with the wedding, what if the band didn’t arrive in time or flowers were wrong. Rose was more worried about the big things that could go wrong, mainly that a group of aliens would choose that moment to attack. It was a perfectly legitimate concern with her track record.

But there was also the matter of one specific alien. What would she do if the Doctor chose the most inconvenient moment to reappear in her life? It could be awkward enough loving two men when one of them wasn’t actually in her life.

John had often fretted as more and more grey grew into his blond hair, which Delenn had always found strange. It seemed most species with hair dreaded losing it or it losing its color, but being Minbari she did not have an instinctive understanding of that cultural oddity.

Still, over time she thought it was strange to look in the mirror now and have hair that reminded her of how much time had passed. Each bit of grey marked moments that had passed and would never come again, when there was little enough time in a lifetime to begin with.

But he did know what would happen next. It wasn’t as simple as finally finding Rose, they had found her because they came looking for the source behind Anubis’ ability to create super-soldier; they found her.

Whatever Anubis had done to her, however he had used her to create his army, now they had to undo it. She should be allowed to go home, recover from what happened, but it wouldn’t happen.

Rose would understand that saving the galaxy was more important; Jack was less sure Daniel would accept it.

At first Jackie hoped that Rose would see how much better their lives were here. It was understandable she’d miss the Doctor for a while but they had a wonderful new life to live. But as weeks, and months stretched on she saw that Rose wasn’t accepting the gift they had received. Rose wanted to go back, and she wasn’t willing to accept that it was impossible.

Jackie recalled one of the last conversations they had had before coming here, about Rose turning into the Doctor, but that wasn’t quite right. The Doctor said it was impossible, Rose didn’t care.

It was a strange thing for the oldest being in the universe to say though. But he would not deny the truth of it, he grown old of late. “I suppose you’ll tell me that only the mortal have a concept of growing old.”

“I would remind you that you are mortal Time Lord. You have a finite life, perhaps you should live it.”

And in a burst of light he was gone, as usual.

At first they were a relationship of four people. The two of them accepted the presence of the shadows with them. And in doing that, they took the first step towards leaving the past behind them. In time it would be a relationship between two people, out of the shadows.
